A hostname can stop resolving—or resolve but still fail to serve the intended application—after an alias change for two different reasons: the DNS record may violate rules for that name, or the destination service may not be configured to accept that hostname. Check the active DNS zone, the hostname’s existing records, whether it is the zone apex, and the destination’s custom-domain and routing settings before changing records again. The specific cause of the logistics hostname issue cannot be determined without its DNS provider, hostname, prior and current records, target, and error.
First confirm where the hostname’s DNS is managed
Find the domain’s delegated nameservers and identify the DNS provider they point to. Make changes in that provider’s active zone. Editing a zone at a former provider has no effect if the domain is no longer delegated to it.
Write down the exact hostname and classify it: example.com is the zone apex, while www.example.com is a subdomain. The distinction matters because a standard CNAME is not valid at a zone apex.
Check for conflicting records at the hostname
Inspect every record with the same owner name as the proposed alias. A standard CNAME cannot coexist at that name with A, AAAA, another CNAME, or other ordinary DNS data. Cloudflare explains that adding records alongside a CNAME would send conflicting information to DNS servers: Cloudflare’s DNS record-type guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Dual band router upgrades to 1200 Mbps high speed internet (300mbps for 2.4GHz plus 900Mbps for 5GHz), reducing buffering and ideal for 4K stream
- Full Gigabit Ports - Gigabit Router with 4 Gigabit LAN ports, ideal for any internet plan and allow you to directly connect your wired devices

- MU-MIMO technology - (5GHz band) allows high speeds for multiple devices simultaneously
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
Do not remove a record just to make the alias save. First establish which service should receive traffic and whether the existing record is still needed. Replacing an A or AAAA record with a CNAME, for example, changes how that hostname is resolved.
Determine whether the hostname is the zone apex
A conventional CNAME points one hostname to another hostname, but cannot be used at the zone apex under standard DNS rules. AWS states that “you can’t create a CNAME record for your domain’s zone apex.” AWS re:Post explains the Route 53 apex constraint and supported alternative.

Some DNS providers offer a provider-specific apex mechanism—often called an alias record, ALIAS, or flattened CNAME—that can produce an address response while accepting a hostname as its target. These mechanisms are not interchangeable with a standard CNAME. Confirm the provider’s target support, record rules, and behavior for the specific service. Route 53 alias records have their own target and record-type constraints; in the documented case, an alias at the apex cannot target a CNAME record. See AWS’s comparison of alias and non-alias records.

Check that the destination service is ready for the hostname
Changing DNS only directs requests; it does not necessarily complete the destination’s setup. The service must recognize the hostname and have the needed certificate and routing configuration.
Amazon CloudFront
The hostname must be configured as an alternate domain name on the CloudFront distribution, in addition to having DNS point to the intended endpoint. Follow CloudFront’s alternate domain name guidance and its DNS configuration instructions.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology

- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Azure Front Door
Validate the custom domain, then associate it with the intended endpoint and route. DNS can point to Front Door while the domain is still not attached to a route that serves the application; see Microsoft’s setup steps.
Other hosting or proxy services
Check whether the destination requires hostname ownership validation, an active certificate, an allowed host-header value, or an explicit route. For a Microsoft Web App behind Azure Front Door, Microsoft notes that matching the root hostname and backend host header avoids a redirect loop in that configuration. Do not assume this specific issue applies to other hosting arrangements.

Verify DNS responses before changing the destination
Query both the authoritative nameserver and a recursive resolver. With dig, a basic check is dig www.example.com CNAME; to query a particular authoritative server, use dig @ns1.example-dns.net www.example.com CNAME, replacing the server and hostname with the real values. With nslookup, you can query a specific server using nslookup www.example.com ns1.example-dns.net.
Compare the answer with the intended target. Depending on the record type and provider, a lookup may return an address rather than reveal the provider’s alias mechanism as a CNAME. If the authoritative answer is correct but a recursive resolver still returns the previous answer, caching and the record’s TTL may account for the difference. CloudFront advises checking DNS propagation and notes that it can take 24–48 hours in some cases; this is a possible window, not a guarantee for every DNS change. See CloudFront’s DNS verification guidance.
Use the failure pattern to choose the next check
- The record cannot be created: verify the active zone, same-name records, and whether the hostname is the apex. A conflict or unsupported apex CNAME is more likely than a propagation problem.
- The hostname returns no answer or an unexpected answer: query the authoritative server first. Check for a stale zone, incorrect target, conflicting record, or resolver cache.
- The hostname resolves to the intended destination but the site fails: investigate the destination’s hostname validation, certificate status, host-header configuration, and route association.
- Only some users see the change: compare answers from authoritative and recursive resolvers, then account for caching and TTL timing before making further edits.
These are diagnostic branches, not a determination of what happened to the logistics hostname. The DNS provider, exact hostname, records before and after the change, target, and observed error are needed to identify its root cause.
