To find out which automated clients are requesting your deployed Astro site, check the access logs or request analytics provided by your production host or CDN. A user-agent header can suggest a crawler, but it does not prove who sent the request. For requests claiming to be Googlebot, verify the source IP using Google’s reverse-DNS method or its published crawler IP ranges.
Where to see crawlers requesting your Astro site
Astro source files, sitemap settings, and robots.txt describe what your site publishes or permits; they do not record who visits it. Request evidence comes from the system serving the deployed site, usually the hosting platform, reverse proxy, or CDN. The available fields and how long they are retained vary by provider.
In the production host or CDN’s request logs or analytics, look for the time, requested path, response status, source IP address, and user-agent header, when available. Review the provider’s current documentation for where to find these records and what they include. Logs show requests that reached that service; they are not necessarily a complete record of activity handled elsewhere in your delivery stack.
How to tell whether a request is really from Googlebot
Use the user-agent as a clue, not authentication. Google warns that other crawlers often spoof the HTTP user-agent used by Googlebot. Its documentation says: “Before you decide to block Googlebot, be aware that the HTTP `user-agent` request header used by Googlebot is often spoofed by other crawlers.” (Google Search Central, “What Is Googlebot,” updated February 3, 2026.)

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Find the source IP. Locate the address associated with the request in your host or CDN logs.
- Verify the claim. Google’s recommended checks are reverse DNS lookup of that IP or comparison with its published crawler IP ranges. Do not treat a matching user-agent string alone as confirmation.
- Decide what to do only after verification. A suspicious request that labels itself Googlebot may be another crawler. Verify before making a blocking decision based on that label.
Google documents both smartphone and desktop Googlebot variants. They use the same Googlebot robots.txt product token, so robots.txt cannot target one of those variants while allowing the other.
What Astro’s sitemap setup does—and does not do
Astro’s v4 @astrojs/sitemap documentation describes generating a sitemap index named sitemap-index.xml and child sitemap files. It shows two ways to help crawlers discover the sitemap: a <link rel="sitemap"> in the page head or a fully qualified Sitemap: entry in robots.txt. It also demonstrates generating robots.txt from src/pages/robots.txt.ts using the configured Astro site value. See the Astro v4 sitemap integration guide; check your project’s Astro version and deployment output before applying version-specific instructions.

A sitemap helps crawlers discover URLs; it does not report visits or guarantee that every listed page will be crawled or indexed. Likewise, Search Console and a sitemap answer different questions: one reports Google’s view of crawling and search visibility, while the other publishes URLs for discovery.
What robots.txt controls
Google’s robots.txt guidance specifies that the file belongs at the root of the host it governs. Its rules are scoped to the protocol, host, and port where the file is served; a file on one subdomain or protocol does not govern another. Unless a rule says otherwise, files are implicitly allowed. See Google’s guide to creating and submitting a robots.txt file.

Robots.txt controls crawling paths, not secrecy. Blocking a URL from crawling does not guarantee that the URL will stay out of search results. If the goal is to prevent indexing, use an appropriate indexing directive such as noindex; if the goal is to restrict access to users and crawlers, password protection is the option Google cites. Do not rely on a crawl block as an access-control mechanism.
What Google Search Console can tell you
Google describes Search Console as a free resource for information about its crawling and how pages appear in Search. It can help diagnose Google crawling issues, including server downtime or speed problems, but it is not a census of every crawler that contacted your site. Use host or CDN logs to investigate requests from non-Google bots as well as to inspect individual requests; use Search Console for Google’s reporting and search visibility.

Interpreting request volume
Google says that for most sites, Googlebot should not access the site more than once every few seconds on average, though short bursts can appear faster. This is Google’s operational guidance, not a measured statistic about Astro sites or a guarantee about every crawl pattern. The available evidence does not establish a general percentage or ranking of which bots crawl Astro sites, so the logs for your own deployment are the relevant evidence.
