Laufey, usually called Faye, is Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother in God of War Ragnarök. She died before the events of God of War (2018), but her final wish—to have her ashes scattered—sets Kratos and Atreus on their journey. Along the way, they learn that Faye was a Giant and that she had named her son Loki. Deborah Ann Woll is the performer associated with Faye, though the official announcement does not describe her credit as voice-only.
Who is Laufey, or Faye?
Laufey and Faye are two names for the same character. Kratos and Atreus generally know her as Faye. She is Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother, and her memory influences the family’s journey even though she has died before God of War (2018) begins.

PlayStation’s story recap and the official God of War Ragnarök page connect her final request to the beginning of the Norse story.
What does Faye’s final wish mean for the story?
Faye’s funeral opens God of War (2018). Her request that Kratos and Atreus take her ashes to the highest peak gives them a shared purpose, while her absence shapes how they handle grief and their relationship with each other. The journey and its revelations continue to matter in Ragnarök, but Faye is not alive and travelling with them.

What do Kratos and Atreus learn about Faye?
She was a Giant
At Jötunheim, Kratos and Atreus discover carvings that Faye had left behind, depicting their journey. The temple reveals that she was a Giant—a truth she had kept from her husband and son.
She named Atreus Loki
Atreus learns that Faye gave him the name Loki. Kratos had chosen Atreus, so the names reflect two different parts of the boy’s identity and the family’s history.

She taught Atreus practical skills
Before her death, Faye taught Atreus archery and hunting. These details help explain why her influence remains present in his life even when she is absent from the events on screen.
Who plays Faye in God of War Ragnarök?
Deborah Ann Woll appeared as Faye in God of War Ragnarök. Santa Monica Studio’s announcement of God of War Laufey says Woll reprises the role in that separately announced game. The official wording identifies her as the actor or performer associated with Faye; it does not specify a voice-only credit.

Is God of War Laufey part of Ragnarök?
No. God of War Laufey is a separate announced story that begins after Faye’s death, not a chapter in Ragnarök in which she accompanies Kratos. PlayStation’s official game page currently lists February 16, 2027, as its PS5 release date. Because that is a future release date, it may change.
