Atsu is the new protagonist of Ghost of Yōtei, a PlayStation 5 action-adventure game set in 1600s Northern Japan. Her story begins with vengeance but, as the creators describe it, reaches toward healing and redemption. Actor Erika Ishii voices Atsu and lends their likeness to the character. Atsu is not a continuation of Jin Sakai’s story: Ghost of Yōtei introduces a new hero and tale.
Who is Atsu in Ghost of Yōtei?
Atsu is the central character and playable hero of Ghost of Yōtei, developed by Sucker Punch Productions. PlayStation’s announcement presents her as a new protagonist on an unconventional journey through 1600s Northern Japan, in a world near Mount Yōtei. She is not simply a renamed version of Jin Sakai or a supporting character from the earlier game.

What is Atsu’s story about?
The spoiler-light premise is a journey that starts with vengeance and grows beyond it. In the October 2, 2025 launch announcement, Sucker Punch co-founder and studio head Brian Fleming described the story as one of “healing and redemption that runs deeper than vengeance,” told through the eyes of a new hero. That establishes the game’s broad thematic direction, not the details of Atsu’s development or its ending.

The PlayStation Store describes Atsu as living an unconventional tale in that region; the available official character framing does not establish additional plot details that are necessary to understand who she is.

Who voices Atsu?
Erika Ishii voices Atsu and lends their likeness to the character, according to an official PlayStation Blog interview published around the game’s launch. Ishii described the appeal of the role this way: “I think there’s just something really fun about truly living out that fantasy.”
Is Ghost of Yōtei a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima?
No. Sucker Punch’s official FAQ says Ghost of Yōtei is not a direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. It carries forward elements of the earlier game’s design and mythos, but tells a new story with a different hero, Atsu. You do not need to treat her as part of Jin Sakai’s immediate story to understand the premise.

Ghost of Yōtei launched on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5, and Sucker Punch’s FAQ says it supports PS5 Pro. The official PlayStation Store currently also surfaces a Complete Edition listing that mentions a story expansion into Atsu’s past. Edition contents can vary by territory or change over time, so check the live PlayStation Store listing for your region if you are comparing editions.
