For podcasts, calls, and game chat, start with the MV6’s speech-oriented processing enabled: Auto Level, Real-time Denoiser, and Digital Popper Stopper. Place the mic about 6–12 inches from your mouth, make a short test recording, then change a setting only if you hear a specific problem. The controls differ between the original MV6 and MV6 Gen 2, so check which model you have before following model-specific advice.
How do I change MV6 mic settings?
- Connect the MV6 to your computer with USB-C and select it as the audio input in your operating system or recording app.
- Open Shure MOTIV Mix, select the MV6 under Sources, and open its settings with the gear icon.
- Check which controls are available and confirm whether your mic is the original MV6 or MV6 Gen 2. The app’s available options can vary with the model and software or firmware revision.
- Position the mic about 6–12 inches from your mouth. Speak at your usual volume and then a little louder while monitoring or recording a short test.
- Keep the speech processing enabled as a baseline. Change one control at a time and listen to the result before deciding whether to keep the change.
Shure’s MV6 User Guide describes the original microphone’s controls and defaults. The MOTIV Mix User Guide recommends a close 6–12-inch mouth-to-mic distance to help avoid room reflections and reverberation.
Which settings should you use for speech?
Auto Level or Manual gain
On the original MV6, Auto Level adjusts gain in response to changes in your distance and speaking volume; it is the default. It is a sensible choice for conversation when your voice varies between quieter speech and emphatic phrases. Manual mode gives you direct control through a gain slider. Try it if you want a fixed level in a consistent setup, and adjust while speaking at your normal distance and volume. Check the meter or a recording for clipping rather than relying on a universal gain number.
MV6 Gen 2 has customizable Auto Level gain targets and response times, which Shure positions for changing voice dynamics such as gaming whispers and callouts. Those adjustments are not listed among the original MV6 controls.

Real-time Denoiser
Turn on Real-time Denoiser when steady sounds such as a computer fan, HVAC, or traffic are distracting. Shure describes the feature as reducing constant environmental noise. Compare a short recording or monitoring with the processing on and off; keep it on if it reduces the unwanted sound without making your voice less natural. The original MV6 guide documents a toggle, while Shure describes adjustable denoising on Gen 2.
Denoising is not a substitute for moving closer to the mic or improving the room. It targets persistent background noise, not every cause of a poor recording.

Digital Popper Stopper
Keep Digital Popper Stopper on for speech if bursts from “p” and “b” sounds are distracting. Shure describes it as detecting and reducing plosives; Gen 2’s product FAQ says it can reduce them without a separate physical pop filter. It does not make speaking directly into the grille at very close range a good placement choice.

The original model’s high-pass filter offers 75 Hz and 150 Hz options to reduce low-frequency rumble. It is reasonable to leave the filter off unless rumble is audible, then try 75 Hz first. Use 150 Hz only if it reduces the noise without making your voice sound too thin. These are practical starting suggestions, not Shure-prescribed voice recipes.
MV6 Gen 2 also has a five-band EQ. That is a Gen 2 feature; do not look for its EQ or assign its controls to the original MV6.

Monitor Mix and mute
Monitor Mix changes the balance of your microphone and computer playback in headphones connected to the MV6’s 3.5 mm output. Use it to make monitoring comfortable; it does not change the microphone’s recorded gain. You can mute the mic in the app or with its tap-to-mute control.

Which MV6 settings should you change for podcasts, calls, and gaming?
Podcasts
Connect over USB-C, select the MV6 in your recording app, and start with the speech processing on. Keep the mic about 6–12 inches from your mouth, record a short test at your normal speaking level, and check for clipping and distracting noise. Switch to Manual gain only if you need direct level control or Auto Level does not suit your consistent setup. Shure says MOTIV Mix can manage up to five audio channels; each speaker still needs appropriate mic placement.

Calls
Select the MV6 as the input device in the video-call app as well as in system settings if needed. Use the speech-oriented starting setup, and enable denoising if steady room noise is being sent to other callers. Headphones and Monitor Mix can help you hear your own voice without changing the level the app receives. Shure describes Gen 2 as compatible with mainstream video-conferencing software, but you still need to check the app’s device selection and microphone permissions.
Gaming and streaming
For voice chat, begin with the same speech processing as for calls. Gen 2’s adjustable Auto Level targets and response times are intended for changing dynamics such as whispers and callouts. Console and game support varies by platform, operating system, game, and voice-chat implementation; check the exact configuration rather than assuming every console or game supports the MV6’s USB audio input.

How do I reduce fan noise on an MV6?
- Move the mic closer to your mouth while keeping a comfortable speaking position; Shure recommends 6–12 inches.
- Enable Real-time Denoiser for persistent fan noise, then compare a short sample with it off and on.
- If the noise is low-frequency rumble rather than a steady fan sound, try the original MV6’s 75 Hz high-pass option. If needed, compare 150 Hz and keep it only if your voice still sounds full.
- Make one change at a time and listen back. There is no documented universal denoiser strength or gain setting that fits every room and voice.
Shure’s MOTIV Mix User Guide characterizes denoising as reducing constant environmental noise; its separate purpose is not the same as filtering low-frequency rumble.

The MV6 connects to a computer by USB-C and can be selected as an audio input for voice chat. Whether it works with a particular game or console depends on that platform’s USB audio support and the game’s voice-chat implementation. Shure’s MV6 Gen 2 product page explicitly advises checking the exact platform and game configuration; it does not establish universal console or game compatibility.
