1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you have no specific destination in mind, start with Python: Python.org describes it as easy for beginners to use and learn, and CS50 offers a Python-focused course. If you want to build interactive websites, choose a JavaScript-centered route; if typed syntax feels like a barrier, try Scratch. For broader computer-science foundations, a course such as CS50x teaches several languages and concepts along the way. There is no universal first language that is best for everyone, so choose one route and make something before reconsidering.
Choose a first language by what you want to do
| Your situation | A reasonable first path | Why it fits | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| You want a general text-based start but have no particular goal | Python | Python.org calls it easy for beginners to use and learn, and CS50 offers an introduction focused on Python. | Beginner-friendly does not mean every concept or later specialization will be effortless. |
| You want to make websites or interactive web apps | JavaScript, alongside HTML and CSS | CS50x includes these technologies in its web-app material. | CS50’s 2023 FAQ distinguishes HTML and CSS from programming languages; JavaScript provides programming behavior in this web path. |
| You want a visual introduction or feel blocked by syntax | Scratch | CS50x begins with Scratch, and CS50 also offers a Scratch course. | Scratch is an option, not a required step before text-based coding. |
| You want broad computer-science foundations | A multi-language course such as CS50x | It covers problem solving and moves through Scratch, C, Python, SQL, and web technologies. | This is a broader course path, not a single-language recommendation, and may feel more demanding than a focused introduction. |
If you have a different specific destination, choose a language and learning route that support it. The paths above are useful examples, not a comprehensive comparison of every specialty or a universal ranking.
Why Python is a sensible default
For a learner who simply wants to begin with a text-based language, Python is a well-supported choice. Python.org’s beginner guidance says it is easy for beginners to use and learn, and points to learning resources. That is an institutional description, not proof that Python is objectively the easiest language for every person or the best fit for every goal.
CS50’s preparation page lists CS50’s Introduction to Programming with Python as an optional course. The page says CS50 has no prerequisites and that preparation is not expected. It was published in 2022, so check the current course page for CS50x curriculum details.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When JavaScript is the better starting point
If your immediate motivation is making websites or interactive web applications, a JavaScript-centered web path is practical. CS50x 2026 includes HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in its web-app material. That establishes a supported route for learning these technologies together; it does not show that JavaScript is easier than Python or best for every beginner.
In this trio, HTML structures content and CSS styles it; JavaScript is the programming language used for behavior. That distinction can make a beginner’s learning plan clearer: learning web development often involves more than learning a programming language alone.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
When to try Scratch instead
Scratch lets you explore programming visually rather than beginning with typed syntax. CS50x 2026 starts with Scratch, and CS50’s preparation page lists CS50’s Introduction to Programming with Scratch. It can be an inviting first step if syntax is getting in the way of understanding basic programming ideas.
Scratch is not a prerequisite for learning text-based coding. CS50x welcomes learners with no previous programming experience, so you can choose a visual start or move directly to a text-based course.

What a multi-language course teaches about the first-language decision
CS50x 2026 is a broad introductory course rather than a Python- or JavaScript-only sequence. It begins with Scratch and C, then moves to Python, SQL, and web technologies including JavaScript. The course says it teaches problem solving and computer-science fundamentals, with the aim of helping students learn how to program rather than merely learning one language.
As the CS50 FAQ published in 2023 puts it: “The goal, ultimately, is for students to feel not that they ‘learned how to program in X’ but that they ‘learned how to program.’” This is one course’s stated philosophy, not evidence that every beginner should start with C or take a multi-language course.

The course page also says two thirds of CS50 students have never taken computer science before. That figure describes CS50’s students, not beginners generally, and says nothing by itself about completion or outcomes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Make the choice, then finish a small project
Use this short decision rule:
- If you do not know what you want to build, begin with Python.
- If you specifically want websites or interactive web apps, choose a JavaScript-centered web path.
- If visual blocks feel more inviting than typed code, try Scratch.
- If your priority is broad computer-science foundations, consider a multi-language introductory course such as CS50x.
Then complete one beginner course and make a small project that fits your path: a text-based quiz or calculator, a simple web page with interactive behavior, or a Scratch animation. These are project ideas, not tested requirements. Finishing one coherent route is more useful than switching languages because of online rankings.
