In Generation IX, Blissey has the highest listed base EXP yield: 635. That is a species value, not the number every Pokémon in your party will receive after a battle. Before Generation V, the listed top base yield was 255, shared by Arceus, Happiny, Chansey, and Blissey. The answer to “What Pokémon give the most experience points?” therefore depends on the game and whether you mean base yield or the EXP awarded in a particular battle.
What does “most EXP” mean?
Base EXP yield is the underlying species value used in the game’s calculation. EXP awarded is what a Pokémon actually receives after a specific battle, with the game applying its rules. The defeated Pokémon’s level and the game’s EXP-sharing mechanics affect that final amount, so a species ranking alone cannot tell you exactly how much a party member will gain.

Which Pokémon have the highest base EXP yield?
| Game era | Highest listed base yield | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Generation IX | Blissey — 635 | Blissey leads the cited Generation IX base-yield comparison; an individual battle’s award is calculated separately. |
| Before Generation V | Arceus, Happiny, Chansey, and Blissey — 255 each | These four species shared the cited historical top base yield. |
Because the ranking changes across generations, don’t treat one species as the series-wide answer for every game. The values above describe the listed base yield, not the amount a particular Pokémon necessarily receives.

Why can your party receive different amounts?
EXP distribution is game-specific. The Pokémon Company’s Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Trainers Guide says that after an opposing Pokémon is defeated, the non-fainted party receives EXP. Pokémon that took part in battle receive a larger portion, and level differences affect each share. The guide also says traded Pokémon gain boosted EXP compared with Pokémon native to the player’s copy.
Those details are specific to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl; do not assume the same allocation or traded-Pokémon boost applies in another title. A useful way to read an EXP result is to separate the defeated species’ base yield from the recipient’s share and any game-specific bonuses.

What should you farm in Scarlet and Violet?
For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet specifically, Nintendo Life’s EXP farming guide recommends Chansey and Blissey as targets. It also discusses using the in-game Lucky Egg and food effects to support farming. These are Scarlet and Violet suggestions, not universal Pokémon-series mechanics or a proven best route for every player.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose an EXP target
- Check the game first. A ranking or farming tip may change between generations and titles.
- Distinguish base yield from the final award. The opponent’s level, party distribution, and applicable bonuses shape what a specific Pokémon receives.
- Consider repeatability. A high-yield species is not automatically the most practical target if it is difficult to encounter or defeat consistently.
- Keep item and battle advice title-specific. For example, Lucky Egg and food-based tactics cited here belong to Scarlet and Violet.
The available figures and examples support a Generation IX base-yield leader and a Scarlet and Violet farming suggestion, not one best grinding route across the whole series. For advice that fits your save, use the exact game’s mechanics and encounter options.
