For PC gaming on an OLED monitor, first select a gaming preset, confirm Windows is outputting the refresh rate you expect, and enable variable refresh rate (VRR) if both the monitor and graphics card support it. Turn on HDR for supported HDR games and content, and leave the monitor’s OLED care protections enabled. There is no universal brightness, contrast, or shadow-control value that suits every OLED display and game.
Start with the gaming preset, then check the signal
Choose a game or user preset
Try the monitor’s gaming preset or a user-configurable preset. Preset names and behavior vary by model. For example, LG identifies FPS1, FPS2, and RTS as presets, while its Gamer modes can be edited. Some LG game modes require HDR to be enabled in Windows, so check your monitor’s manual if a mode is unavailable or behaves differently than expected. LG game-mode support
Set the refresh rate in Windows
In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, select the OLED monitor, and choose one of its supported refresh rates. Check the monitor’s signal information as well: the rate printed in a product name is not proof that the PC is currently sending that signal. LG notes that the available rate depends on the monitor, connection, PC capability, and other conditions. LG refresh-rate support
If the expected rate is missing, check the exact monitor and graphics-card port requirements before replacing a cable. The required connection depends on the monitor, GPU, resolution, and target refresh rate; LG lists DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 or higher as possible requirements for some models, not a rule for every OLED monitor.

Match HDR and VRR to your game and hardware
Use HDR for supported HDR content
Enable HDR in Windows and the monitor when playing supported HDR games or viewing HDR content. HDR is not automatically the best setting for every SDR desktop task: results and behavior depend on the monitor and Windows configuration. If HDR content looks wrong or a gaming preset changes or disappears, consult the model’s instructions and check the Windows HDR setting. LG game-mode support and LG owner’s manual
Enable VRR if the full setup supports it
Adaptive-Sync, VRR, FreeSync, or G-SYNC can help reduce tearing or stuttering when the monitor and graphics card support a compatible mode. Enable the feature using the monitor’s own menu and follow its manual for any model-specific setup. The label and exact steps differ by display. LG owner’s manual

Adjust dark-scene controls without washing out blacks
A Black Stabilizer or similar shadow control changes how visible dark areas appear. Raise it modestly if you have trouble seeing detail in a representative game, then compare the result with the default. If blacks look gray or washed out, reduce the setting. The reviewed manufacturer guidance does not establish a universal slider value, and the right choice depends on the monitor, game, and viewing preference.

Keep OLED care protections enabled
Leave available screen-saving, screen-movement or pixel-shift, and logo-dimming features enabled unless your model’s manual gives a reason to change them. ASUS warns that prolonged static, high-contrast images can contribute to image persistence or burn-in and documents protections intended to reduce that risk. Feature names and operation differ among manufacturers and models. ASUS OLED care support and ASUS monitor manual and support
Let pixel cleaning finish
When the monitor prompts you to run a pixel-cleaning or panel-care cycle, follow its instructions and allow the process to complete. ASUS says the documented process for covered monitors takes approximately six minutes, may run when the screen turns off, and should not be interrupted by unplugging power. That timing and behavior are specific to covered ASUS models; follow your own monitor’s reminder and manual. ASUS pixel-cleaning support
