The right gaming-laptop dock depends on the laptop’s exact port, display needs and power requirements—not just the USB-C connector shape. Four candidate models are identified here, but the available product information does not support a defensible fifth pick or a tested ranking. Use the compatibility checks below before choosing any dock.
Four dock candidates, matched to different setups
These models represent Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 options. The available information is not a standardized comparison, so the table describes what is established rather than ranking the docks or claiming one is best overall.
| Candidate | Interface and supported information | What to verify for your laptop |
|---|---|---|
| Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma | Thunderbolt 5 candidate. Razer publishes a compatibility article listing supported laptops. | Check Razer’s model-specific compatibility and port information for your exact laptop and the port you plan to use. |
| Razer USB4 Dock | A Windows Central 2026 roundup reports support across Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4 and USB-C hosts, and up to 100W host charging. | Those are roundup-reported specifications, not a guarantee for every host. Confirm the exact host compatibility and display modes on the current product information, and compare its charging output with your laptop’s requirements. |
| CalDigit TS4 | Thunderbolt 4 candidate named in current editorial coverage. Comparable test results and a universal “best for gaming laptops” finding are not established. | Confirm that your laptop supports the required host interface and that the dock’s documented display and charging capabilities meet your needs. |
| Plugable TBT4-UDZ | Thunderbolt 4/USB4 candidate identified by Laptop Mag’s 2025 roundup. | Check the current specifications and compatibility notes for your exact laptop, operating system and display setup. |
A fifth model is not included because the available product information does not establish another candidate’s relevant features and laptop compatibility. A longer list would suggest more certainty than the evidence supports.
Check these five things before buying
1. The laptop’s exact port and host support
USB-C describes a connector shape, not a guaranteed feature set. A port may or may not support Thunderbolt, USB4, video output or dock charging. Look up the exact laptop model and the specific port you intend to use. Razer provides model-specific port guidance, while HP’s dock specifications condition full data and video capability on host support for DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt 3 Alt Mode or USB4.

- Confirm the laptop port’s supported standard and video capability in the laptop maker’s documentation.
- Check the dock maker’s compatibility notes for that host and port.
- Do not infer display support or charging from the fact that a cable fits.
2. Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 compatibility
These are distinct host-interface paths, and a newer dock cannot upgrade the laptop’s interface. Dell states that its Thunderbolt 5 dock connected to a Thunderbolt 4 laptop operates at Thunderbolt 4 capability. Compatibility can also vary between particular devices: PCWorld reports that a Thunderbolt 5 dock failed to work with one USB4 laptop in its testing. Verify the exact laptop-and-dock pairing rather than relying on the standard name alone.
3. Charging output versus gaming power needs
A dock’s host-charging figure does not establish that it can replace the laptop’s gaming power adapter. The Windows Central roundup reports up to 100W host charging for the Razer USB4 Dock, but that figure alone does not show whether a particular gaming laptop can sustain gaming on dock power. Compare the dock’s output with the laptop’s stated power requirements and follow the laptop manufacturer’s guidance. If those sources do not confirm that dock power is sufficient for your intended workload, keep using the laptop’s power adapter.

4. Display outputs, resolution and refresh rate
Check both ends of the connection. The laptop must support video over the port, and the dock must support the display connection and mode you want. For each monitor, confirm the output type and supported resolution and refresh rate for your specific host-and-dock combination. If gaming at a high refresh rate is the priority, confirm that mode explicitly; the available information does not establish a universal high-refresh result for any named dock. Consider connecting the gaming monitor directly to the laptop if that is the clearer route to its required display mode.

5. The ports and setup you will actually use
List the peripherals you plan to leave connected—such as a keyboard, mouse, storage device, Ethernet cable, headset or memory card—and check the dock’s current specifications for the matching ports. Also confirm operating-system support and any model-specific limitations. The available information does not establish comparable port counts, dimensions, prices or availability for all four candidates, so check those details on the current manufacturer or seller listing before purchase.

Choose by interface, then verify the exact setup
- Your laptop has Thunderbolt 5: The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chroma is a candidate to investigate; confirm that the exact laptop and port appear in the applicable compatibility information.
- Your laptop has Thunderbolt 4: The CalDigit TS4 and Plugable TBT4-UDZ are identified Thunderbolt 4 candidates. Compare their current documented ports, display modes, charging and host compatibility against your requirements.
- Your laptop has USB4 or USB-C: The Razer USB4 Dock is a candidate, but do not assume broad compatibility means every feature works on every host. Check the exact laptop and display arrangement.
- Your laptop has Thunderbolt 3: The Razer USB4 Dock is reported by Windows Central to support Thunderbolt 3 hosts. Verify the particular laptop, features and display modes in current product documentation.
- You are unsure what the laptop port supports: Identify the exact laptop model and consult its manufacturer’s port specifications before choosing a dock.
What this shortlist can—and cannot—tell you
The four candidates provide starting points across several host-interface categories, not a measured ranking of gaming performance. The available information does not compare all four under the same conditions or establish that any one dock delivers a particular frame rate, high-refresh display mode or gaming-power result. Make the choice from confirmed compatibility and the requirements of your own laptop and monitors.
