There is no verified best DNS for Free Fire. Google Public DNS and Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 are documented options you can test, but neither source establishes that its resolver lowers Free Fire ping. DNS helps your device find an online service; it is not the same measurement as the round-trip time between your game and its server.
Can changing DNS lower Free Fire ping?
DNS translates a service name into the network address a device needs to connect. A quicker lookup can affect connection setup, but the sources available do not show that changing DNS reduces ping during an established Free Fire match. In-game ping reflects the route and response time between your device and the game server, so a resolver-query speed test is not a measurement of game ping.
Garena’s Pakistan support page gives general connection troubleshooting advice, not a recommended DNS provider or a DNS-specific fix. Its guidance is useful for checking common network causes, but it does not establish what will work on every network or region: Garena Free Fire PK Support: Connection Issues.
Which DNS options can you try?
Google’s Public DNS FAQ describes it as “a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.” That is a general service description, not a gaming endorsement. Google says to consider speed, reliability, security, and whether responses are valid; it also notes that a user’s experience may vary greatly by location. Cloudflare and Google are therefore candidates to compare locally, not universal winners.

Comparing resolvers makes sense only on the network and in the location where you play. A 2025 preprint on resolver and CDN interactions reports that performance can vary by region and service; it is not a Free Fire test and does not rank DNS providers for the game: Public DNS Resolvers Meet Content Delivery Networks: A Performance Assessment of the Interplay.
How to try a DNS resolver on Android
Set Google Public DNS using Private DNS
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced > Private DNS. Depending on the phone maker and Android version, menu names or locations may differ.
- Select the option to enter a Private DNS provider hostname and enter
dns.google. Google documents this method for Android 9 and later: Get Started | Public DNS. - Save the setting, reconnect if needed, and test Free Fire under conditions as similar as possible to your previous session.
Try Cloudflare 1.1.1.1
Cloudflare documents one.one.one.one as its standard resolver hostname. Its Android guide also lists 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 for configurations that request IPv4 addresses. Follow the guide for the configuration available on your device rather than mixing hostname and address instructions: Set up 1.1.1.1 on Android.

Cloudflare’s app offers both DNS encryption and WARP, and its guide says the app defaults to WARP mode. WARP is not simply another way to select a DNS resolver: it changes how traffic is handled. If your goal is to compare resolvers, do not treat a WARP result as a DNS-only comparison.
How to compare DNS options fairly
This is a practical home comparison, not a controlled Free Fire benchmark. Change one resolver at a time and keep the device, game mode, connection type, location, and play-time window as consistent as possible. Record repeated in-game ping readings and whether matches disconnect or feel unstable. A DNS benchmark app can report resolver-query time, but that does not tell you the game server’s round-trip latency.

- Compare multiple sessions rather than relying on one match or one ping reading.
- Note whether the game experience actually improves, not just whether a DNS lookup completes quickly.
- If the connection becomes less reliable, restore the previous or automatic DNS setting.
Troubleshoot high ping before changing DNS
Garena’s regional support guidance suggests checking the game and the rest of your network before trying a resolver change. Use this order to narrow down the cause:
- Note the in-game ping and whether instability occurs in every game mode.
- Close other apps running on the phone, then check whether other devices on the same Wi-Fi are streaming or downloading.
- If available, compare Wi-Fi with mobile data. These use different network routes, so a difference does not by itself identify DNS as the cause.
- Only after those checks, try one documented DNS setting and observe whether the actual game experience changes.
- Avoid mods and third-party programs; Garena’s support guidance advises against them.
When to undo the DNS change
Android Private DNS can fail if it cannot establish the required encrypted connection. Google’s DNS-over-TLS documentation explains that strict mode requires a successful TLS connection to port 853: Google Public DNS: DNS-over-TLS. If internet access gets worse after setting a hostname, switch Private DNS back to Automatic or your previous setting. A VPN or DNS changer app may also override Android’s Private DNS configuration, so account for those when testing.
