There is no single best-value cloud storage subscription for every household. In the US, iCloud+ stands out for clear storage tiers and family sharing, Google One for storage shared across Drive, Gmail and Photos, and Microsoft 365 Family for households that want a separate 1TB allocation per person alongside Microsoft apps. The best fit depends on what you already use, how much space each person needs and the current price in your country.
How to compare cloud subscription value
Storage capacity alone does not tell you whether a plan is worth its cost. Compare the plan’s total price with the capacity each person can actually use, what services draw from that storage, who can share it and whether included apps or benefits matter to you.
- Check local cost: Confirm the currency, billing period, taxes and any promotion on the provider’s current plan or checkout page. The Apple prices below are listed US monthly prices, not global rates.
- Check how capacity is allocated: A family pool works differently from a fixed allowance for each person. Consider how much space each household member needs.
- Check what uses the storage: Google One storage covers Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. That can be useful if those services already hold your files, messages or photos.
- Count bundles only if you will use them: Microsoft 365 Family includes Microsoft 365 features. Those features add value only if they suit your household’s needs.
- Consider your devices and accounts: The listed plan facts do not establish a universal winner for mixed-device households. Match the service to the devices and accounts you already use.
What the main plans offer
| Service | Storage and pricing | Sharing and bundle details |
|---|---|---|
| Apple iCloud+ | Apple lists US monthly tiers of 50GB for $0.99, 200GB for $2.99, 2TB for $9.99 and 6TB for $29.99. Check Apple’s iCloud+ page for current availability and pricing. | Can be shared with up to five other family members at no extra cost, according to Apple. |
| Google One | Google accounts include up to 15GB at no charge. Google One storage is shared across Drive, Gmail and Google Photos. The cited plan pages do not state comparable current paid-plan prices here; check the Google One overview and Google storage information for your account and location. | Basic and higher plans can be shared with up to five other people, according to Google. Google also advertises additional member benefits; their value depends on which ones you would use. |
| Microsoft 365 Family | Microsoft says the Family plan includes 1TB per person for up to six people. Check Microsoft’s OneDrive plan comparison for current plan details and regional price. | Storage is allocated individually rather than as one undivided family pool. The plan also bundles Microsoft 365 features. Microsoft explains its storage allowances in its storage quotas guidance. |
These figures come from the providers’ cited pages; plan terms and prices can change. They do not provide a like-for-like global price comparison.
Which service is the best value for you?
Choose iCloud+ if its tiers and family sharing match your needs
iCloud+ is straightforward to assess if you know how much storage your household needs: Apple lists several US monthly capacity tiers, and family sharing is included at no extra cost for up to five other family members. The listed facts do not establish how its value compares with every competitor at equivalent capacities or in every country.

Choose Google One if you use Google’s storage services
Google One is a natural candidate when your files, Gmail and photos all draw on the same Google storage allowance. Google accounts include up to 15GB at no charge, and Basic and higher plans support sharing with up to five other people. Check the plan available to your account before comparing its paid cost with another provider.
Choose Microsoft 365 Family if individual allowances and Microsoft apps matter
Microsoft 365 Family provides up to six people with separate 1TB allocations, rather than a shared family pool. It may offer stronger overall value when household members will also use its bundled Microsoft 365 features; storage alone does not settle that comparison.

Why there is no definitive overall winner
The title’s question cannot be answered with one provider for every reader: country-specific prices, household size, storage needs, current accounts and bundle preferences all affect the result. The available provider details make Apple, Google and Microsoft useful options to compare, but do not establish current Dropbox terms or support a complete market ranking. Verify the current plan details directly before subscribing.
