You can delete some built-in iPhone apps, but not all of them—and what’s available depends on your iOS version and region. If you only want a less crowded Home Screen, choose Remove from Home Screen instead: the app stays in App Library. Choosing Delete App removes it from the iPhone and can also remove related data or affect other features.
Apple’s support pages do not establish that every iPhone comes with exactly 50 pre-installed apps. The figure depends on what counts as an app and on the iPhone’s software and region, so treat “50” as an unverified headline figure, not a universal count.
Which built-in apps can you delete on iPhone?
Apple says iPhone users on iOS 14 or later can delete the following built-in apps. This is Apple’s list of apps that may be deleted, not a promise that every app appears on every iPhone; availability can vary. Some entries in Apple’s combined iPhone-and-iPad list are not available on iPadOS, so this list is scoped to iPhone.

Remove an app from the Home Screen or delete it?
If your goal is simply to declutter, removing an app from the Home Screen is the lower-impact choice. Apple’s iPhone guide distinguishes that action from deletion: Remove from Home Screen leaves the app in App Library, while Delete App deletes it from the iPhone.
To make the choice, touch and hold the app. Select Remove App, then choose either Remove from Home Screen or Delete App. The wording or available choices may vary by app and iOS version. Apple explains the distinction in its iPhone app removal guide.
What can change when you delete a built-in app?
Apple warns: “When you delete a built-in app from your device, you also delete any related user data and configuration files.” Deletion can affect functions that rely on the app. Apple documents these examples:
- Podcasts: deleting it removes Podcasts availability in CarPlay.
- Stocks and Weather: their information is removed from other Apple surfaces.
- Calculator: deleting it removes Calculator from Control Center.
- Contacts: contact information remains available in the Phone app.
- FaceTime: calling remains available through Contacts and Phone, though deleting the app affects other ways of using FaceTime.
- Health: deleting it turns off Medication Reminders, Sleep, Cycle Tracking, and Health Sharing. Apple says health data remains on the iPhone. You may need to unpair an Apple Watch.
- Find My: location-sharing relationships remain, but you lose visibility in the app to previously paired AirTag and other compatible items.
- Watch: deleting it may require unpairing a paired Apple Watch.
These are examples, not a guarantee that deletion is consequence-free. Before deleting an app, check Apple’s notes for that app and consider whether you rely on its data, integrations, or connected devices.

How to restore a deleted Apple app
- Open the App Store.
- Search for the app using its exact name.
- Tap the redownload control next to it and wait for it to download.
Apple’s built-in app guide describes this restoration process. In regions where App Store deletion is available, the store must be restored before you can use it to redownload apps.

Apple documents additional built-in app deletion options for the European Union and Japan. Which options are available depends on region and prerequisites; they are not general permissions for every iPhone user.

Deleting App Store has broader consequences than removing an ordinary app: you cannot receive automatic updates or manually update apps previously downloaded from the App Store, and you cannot redownload other Apple apps until App Store is restored. Apple says to restore it in Settings > Apps > App Installation.
Deleting Camera removes system gestures and controls that open the Camera app, although other apps can still access the iPhone’s built-in camera hardware. Apple’s region-specific requirements and effects are detailed in its guide to deleting certain built-in apps.
