Turn on Apple Watch heart-health notifications if you want alerts about unusually high or low heart rates or occasional irregular rhythms, and keep Vitals notifications on if you want a notice when multiple overnight measurements fall outside your typical ranges. In Oura, keep low-battery alerts and choose activity, bedtime, and insight notifications according to whether you find them useful. These are awareness and reminder features, not a substitute for medical care; availability depends on your device, region, software, and— for some Oura users—membership.
How the two notification systems differ
| System | What its notifications cover | Where to manage them | What can affect availability or delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Heart-rate and occasional irregular-rhythm notifications; overnight Vitals alerts | Heart and Vitals settings on Apple Watch, plus app-specific routing in the Watch app on iPhone | Watch model, software, region, feature eligibility, and notification routing |
| Oura | Low battery, inactivity, activity progress, bedtime, insight, and glucose notifications listed by Oura | Oura app settings, as well as phone-level notification permissions | Ring generation, membership eligibility, Bluetooth, background app operation, and phone settings |
The Apple features described here are health-awareness alerts. Oura’s documented categories include device-status reminders and activity or bedtime prompts. Your preferred balance depends on whether you want more prompts or fewer interruptions.
Apple Watch: which health notifications to turn on
High and low heart-rate notifications
Consider enabling high- and low-heart-rate notifications if you want to know when your heart rate crosses a threshold you set. You can choose those thresholds in the Heart settings. Apple’s setup instructions will indicate which options are available for your watch and region; do not assume every model or location supports every feature. See Apple Support’s heart health notification guidance for current setup and eligibility details.

Turn this on if you want occasional notifications about a possible irregular rhythm and the feature is available to you. Apple Support emphasizes that this feature is not continuously checking for atrial fibrillation (AFib), cannot detect every instance, and is not a diagnosis. A lack of an alert does not rule out AFib.

Vitals notifications
Keep Vitals notifications on if you want Apple Watch to alert you when at least two overnight measurements are outside your typical ranges. To change the alert, open Settings > Vitals on Apple Watch. Apple’s watchOS 26 Vitals guide documents the default rule and supported measurements. Blood oxygen is not universally available: Apple notes a U.S.-specific limitation for Apple Watch models purchased in the United States on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A.

Low-power or power-saving modes can interfere with background updates or notifications. If alerts remain missing, check those settings and Oura’s current guidance for your phone and app version.
Why an Apple Watch alert may appear on only one device
By default, Apple routes a notification to either the iPhone or the Apple Watch, not both. When the iPhone is unlocked, the notification goes to the iPhone. When the iPhone is locked or asleep, it goes to the watch unless the watch is locked. Review an app’s options in Watch app on iPhone > My Watch > Notifications; mirroring or app-specific choices appear where supported. Apple explains the routing behavior in its iPhone and Apple Watch notification guide.
