The best all-in-one printer depends on whether you want the lowest purchase price, affordable color printing over time, or dependable document output. For a low-upfront cartridge model, consider the Brother MFC-J1360DW; for frequent color printing, the Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290; and for mostly black-and-white documents, the Brother MFC-L2820DW. These are use-case picks, not a universal ranking: ink costs, paper handling and print volume can change which one is cheapest for you.

How to choose an all-in-one printer

“Cheap” can mean inexpensive at checkout or inexpensive to keep supplied. Compare the printer’s purchase price with how many pages you expect to print and the cost of the ink or toner it uses. A low-priced cartridge inkjet may suit light, occasional printing; a refillable tank can be more economical for regular color output; and a monochrome laser can make sense when most jobs are text documents.

  • Match the printer to the work: Think about whether you print documents, graphics, photos, or a mix.
  • Check document handling: An automatic document feeder (ADF) helps scan or copy multi-page documents. Automatic duplex printing produces two-sided printouts; it does not mean the printer can scan both sides automatically.
  • Consider usage patterns: If you print rarely, inkjet printheads can be vulnerable to clogs during idle periods. RTINGS raises this concern when discussing an EcoTank alternative.
  • Verify the exact model: Features and product names can differ by country or model suffix. Confirm the specifications, supplies and availability for the version sold in your market.

Five all-in-one printer options by use case

Best for Example Why it fits Tradeoff What to verify
Low-upfront color printing Brother MFC-J1360DW RTINGS names it its “Best Budget All-In-One Printer”; it is a wireless color inkjet with an ADF. Cartridge replacement is a recurring cost, and yield varies with use. Current local price, cartridge compatibility and whether its paper handling suits your jobs.
Frequent color printing and occasional photos Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290 It prints, scans and copies, offers duplex printing and Wi-Fi, and uses refillable ink tanks. It has one paper tray and no ADF, which can slow multi-page scan or copy work. Exact model features, included ink and bottle compatibility in your region.
Mostly black-and-white documents Brother MFC-L2820DW A monochrome laser multifunction printer suited to document-heavy use. It does not print color photos; toner and a separately replaced drum both factor into ownership cost. Drum and toner costs, paper handling, and whether its features fit your workflow.
Lowest-cost entry, if locally suitable Canon PIXMA MG3620 RTINGS includes it under “Best Cheap All-In-One Printer.” The available comparison does not establish a full, current specification or availability picture for every market. Whether the exact model is current and available where you live, plus its features and supply costs.
Other home or higher-volume needs HP DeskJet, HP ENVY, HP Smart Tank or Epson EcoTank family HP positions DeskJet for budget and light volume, ENVY for versatile home use and occasional photos, and Smart Tank for higher-volume printing. Epson advertises high yields for its EcoTank family. Family-level positioning or yield claims do not establish the best exact model for your needs. Exact model specifications, local availability, supply compatibility and the applicable yield claim.

What the reported costs and yields mean

Cartridge ink: useful for light workloads, but budget for replacements

RTINGS’ 2026 review reports about 400 black-and-white pages and 300 color pages per standard Brother MFC-J1360DW cartridge set before replacement; it says high-yield options can roughly double those figures. These are review estimates, not a guarantee: page coverage, settings and print jobs affect actual yield. RTINGS’ 2026 all-in-one printer guide also names the model its budget pick.

Those are guide figures, not live prices or a prediction for every household. Consumer Reports says its overall score combines test results with survey data for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction, and that annual supply-cost estimates use testing and member-reported printing habits. See its 2026 printer buying guide and methodology.

Refillable tanks: assess the exact model, not just the family claim

Tom’s Guide estimates the Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290’s color printing at about 0.9 cents per page, compared with the guide’s stated 1.9-cent category average. These are editorial estimates, not a guaranteed cost for every user. The same guide lists duplex printing, Wi-Fi and one tray, but no document feeder—so two-sided printing does not remove the need to handle multi-page scans or copies manually. Read Tom’s Guide’s all-in-one printer coverage.

Epson’s US EcoTank category page advertises maximum yields of up to 6,600 color pages and 5,500 black pages. Those are manufacturer claims for the product family, not tested yields for every EcoTank model; check the exact printer’s page before relying on them. Epson’s EcoTank home and office printer page provides the family-level information.

Monochrome laser: count the drum as well as the toner

RTINGS’ 2026 review reports a speed of 33 pages per minute for the Brother MFC-L2820DW, a regular toner yield just under 1,300 prints, and an advertised XL toner yield of 3,000 pages. These figures describe the reviewed model and stated cartridge yields; they do not establish the cost of every print job. Include the separately replaced drum when calculating total supply costs. A monochrome laser is a document option, not a solution for color photos. See RTINGS’ all-in-one printer guide.

Which option should you choose?

  • Choose the Brother MFC-J1360DW if you want a budget-oriented wireless color all-in-one and an ADF, and your expected print volume makes cartridge costs acceptable.
  • Choose a refillable tank such as the Canon G3290 if you print color regularly and can manage without an ADF.
  • Consider the Brother MFC-L2820DW if your work is mainly black-and-white documents and you are willing to account for both toner and drum replacement.
  • Investigate the Canon MG3620 or a model from the HP or Epson families only after confirming the exact model’s local availability, features and supply costs.
