The museum lists a complete, 22-foot-long Cryolophosaurus skeleton among its highlights. Its page does not say whether the mount is original fossil material, a cast, or a reconstruction, so confirm with the museum if seeing original bones is essential.
See a Cryolophosaurus skeleton at Fryxell Geology Museum
Augustana College’s Fryxell Geology Museum is at 820 38th St., Rock Island, Illinois. The museum describes a complete, 22-foot-long skeleton of Cryolophosaurus, a meat-eating dinosaur discovered in Antarctica in 1991 by Augustana paleontologist William Hammer. This is the clearest documented current in-person destination for an Antarctic dinosaur specimen display.
Augustana lists regular hours as 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1–4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday when classes are in session. Because weekend access depends on the academic calendar, check the college’s current museum information before making a special trip. The museum also reports more than 20,000 rock, mineral, and fossil specimens in its overall collection, with 1,500 on display; those totals are not specific to Antarctic material.
Is the original Cryolophosaurus fossil on display?
That is not established by the cited visitor information. Fryxell calls its display a complete skeleton but does not identify the mount as original fossil bones, a cast, or a reconstruction. Ask the museum directly if this distinction matters to your visit.

The Field Museum’s online catalog records the Cryolophosaurus ellioti type specimen as PR 1821, collected in 1991, and provides an educational 3D model of the skull. The catalog entry documents the specimen and model; it does not confirm that the original fossil is currently on public gallery display. See the Field Museum specimen record.

The traveling exhibition included real fossils, large-scale replicas, fieldwork material, and interactive displays. The Florida Museum’s 2023 announcement described more than 60 rare fossils, touchable bone casts, models, and field artifacts for its temporary run, which ended in 2024. These past exhibits help explain what the touring experience offered, but their old pages should not be treated as evidence of current availability. Check a venue’s current calendar before traveling.
