On most Samsung Galaxy phones, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks, then switch Data Roaming on or off. Check with your mobile provider before turning it on: roaming may cost extra, and your plan and device must be allowed to use it.
Find the Data Roaming switch
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Mobile Networks.
- Switch Data Roaming on or off.
Samsung’s UK support instructions, updated 5 June 2026, give this general path. Menu names and availability can vary by Galaxy model, software version, carrier, and region. If the labels differ, search Settings for “Data roaming” or consult support for your specific device.
What data roaming does
Samsung defines data roaming as using a mobile network that is not owned by your provider to send and receive data. This often happens when traveling abroad, but roaming describes the relationship between networks—not simply whether you have crossed an international border.

If Data Roaming is greyed out
Samsung advises checking that Mobile data is enabled. Go to Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data, turn it on, and return to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks to check the roaming switch again. The exact labels may vary.

If mobile data will not work while roaming
- Check that Mobile data and Data Roaming are both on.
- Ask your provider whether roaming is active and permitted for your particular device and plan.
- Check for and install available phone software updates.
- Restart the phone.
- If data still does not connect, contact your provider for help with the account or network.
Check charges and regional instructions first
Roaming charges depend on the provider and plan; Samsung warns that your provider may charge extra. Confirm the price and whether roaming is included before enabling it. Samsung’s Canadian guidance on managing Galaxy data usage, last updated 15 July 2026, applies to devices sold in Canada and notes that activation steps can differ by carrier. It does not establish one universal price or procedure for every region.
