Pokémon also names Walmart, Target, GameStop, and reputable local hobby shops as places to find Pokémon TCG products—but that does not verify every third-party seller or online listing. To reduce the risk of counterfeits, check who is selling the cards, compare packaging with Pokémon’s official images, and treat a dramatically low price as a serious warning.
Where to buy Pokémon cards online
Pokémon Center in the United States and Canada
Pokémon Support says customers in the United States and Canada can purchase Pokémon products directly from Pokémon Center. This is the direct route identified in the cited guidance for those countries. Availability can vary, and the guidance does not establish that the same purchasing route is available worldwide.
Retailers and local hobby shops
Pokémon also points buyers to Walmart, Target, GameStop, and reputable local hobby shops for TCG products. Use Pokémon’s Retail Locator to look for nearby retail locations carrying official products. Pokémon’s mention of a retailer category is not a blanket endorsement of every marketplace seller, storefront, or individual listing using that name.
Buying outside the United States and Canada
The cited Pokémon buying guidance does not provide a complete online retailer list for every country. Check Pokémon’s regional buying information and store locator where available, and verify the seller independently rather than assuming a US or Canadian purchasing route applies in your region.

Choose the right product before you buy
A deck is the more predictable purchase if you want to play immediately. Boosters are for randomized pulls and collecting, not for obtaining a guaranteed card. Pokémon describes the differences in its product guidance as follows:
| Product | What you get | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Preconstructed deck | 60 fixed cards; decks with the same name have the same contents. | Starting to play with a ready-to-use deck and knowing what is inside. |
| Booster pack | Randomized contents. Pokémon’s current description lists 10 game cards: 4 commons, 3 uncommons, and 3 foils, with at least one rare or higher; it also includes an Energy card and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. | Collecting variety or pursuing cards from a set, with no guarantee of a specific card. |
For booster packs from sets released before Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon says the guarantee is at least one reverse foil card per pack; keep that older-set distinction in mind when comparing descriptions. Elite Trainer Boxes, collections, and tins may bundle boosters with accessories, and some products show a promotional card through a clear plastic window. Pokémon says the packs in these products are the same packs sold individually, not packs with a special card rate or a higher chance of a particular card.

How to spot risky listings and possible counterfeits
Be wary of prices far below the suggested retail price
Pokémon Support gives a strong warning: a pack priced “dramatically below” suggested retail is a near-certain counterfeit warning. Pokémon does not specify a discount threshold, so there is no reliable percentage to apply. A low price is a reason to pause and investigate, not a formula that proves a listing fake or authentic.
Check the seller and product presentation
- Prefer Pokémon Center or a retailer and location identified through Pokémon’s guidance when those options are available.
- Check the seller name on a marketplace listing; a familiar marketplace or retailer brand does not establish that an individual seller is authorized or trustworthy.
- Compare the product’s packaging and images with Pokémon’s official product images. Mismatched or suspicious presentation merits caution, but a convincing image alone does not authenticate the item.
- Read the listing carefully for what is actually being sold, including product type, quantity, condition, and whether the photos show the item offered.
Pokémon notes that counterfeit booster packs can be difficult to distinguish visually. Its advice is to learn the official appearance from product images and to be cautious about unusually low prices, rather than relying on a picture as proof.

Use physical checks only as clues
Pokémon says a suspected counterfeit card may be visible through when held up to a bright light, and suggests consulting a local shop specializing in trading cards. Neither method is a remote authentication guarantee: the light check is only a clue, and an experienced shop can offer an in-person assessment. Pokémon also reports that it receives the highest reported instances of counterfeit sales originating from flea markets.
What to do when a product is scarce
Pokémon Support has reported that high demand affected availability of certain TCG products. It said it was printing impacted products and expected reprints to return to participating retailers as soon as possible; it also described a virtual queue for certain Pokémon Center products during periods of increased site traffic. These conditions can change, so check current official and retailer listings rather than relying on an old stock notice.

- Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black Booster Bundle contains six booster packs from Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black.
- This is a great option for getting into the new Choas Rising expansion.
- A great gift for the Pokémon collector or player in your life.
Scarcity alone does not show that a listing is legitimate. If a sought-after product is unavailable through a reliable route, resist pressure to buy an unusually cheap or unusually expensive listing without checking the seller and the offer. Pokémon’s statements do not establish current stock, a current price, or the legitimacy of any individual third-party offer.

- Choose your goal: select a fixed-content preconstructed deck for immediate play, or boosters if you accept random contents while collecting.
- Start with an official route: in the United States or Canada, check Pokémon Center; use Pokémon’s Retail Locator for local stores. Elsewhere, consult regional Pokémon buying information and locator options.
- Verify the seller: distinguish the platform or retailer name from the identity of the seller fulfilling the specific listing.
- Inspect the offer: compare packaging with official images, read exactly what is included, and treat a dramatically below-retail pack price as a major warning.
- Pause if uncertain: avoid treating photos or a single light test as proof; ask a local trading-card specialty shop to assess a suspected card.
The cited Pokémon guidance does not verify particular marketplace sellers or their return and buyer-protection terms. Review the terms that apply to the specific seller and transaction before paying.
