On Windows, look in the OneDrive Pictures folder. Microsoft has retired the separate “Save screenshots to OneDrive” setting. Screenshots are backed up when your Pictures folder is included in OneDrive backup, so you can find them in the Pictures folder in OneDrive on the web or in your locally synced OneDrive folder. The exact local path depends on where OneDrive was installed. On Android, the screenshot folder must be selected under Camera backup > Back up device folders. On iPhone and iPad, Microsoft documents camera-roll upload rather than a universal cloud folder named Screenshots.
Windows: check OneDrive’s Pictures folder first
Windows does not have one fixed OneDrive screenshot directory for every computer. The reliable location is the Pictures folder associated with the OneDrive account whose backup is enabled.
- Open OneDrive in File Explorer, or open your account’s OneDrive files in a browser.
- Open Pictures.
- Look for the screenshot file there, including any subfolder created by the application that made the screenshot.
If Pictures is not being backed up, a screenshot saved locally will remain on the PC and will not appear in OneDrive.
Turn on Pictures backup
Open the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area, choose Settings, then open the backup section and review the folders selected for backup. Make sure Pictures is included. Labels can change between OneDrive releases, but the setting is the folder-backup control, not a screenshot-specific control.

Microsoft’s current support wording is explicit: “The ‘Save screenshots to OneDrive’ feature is no longer available in the OneDrive settings.” The replacement is backing up the Pictures folder.
Find the local synced copy
The OneDrive folder path is selected during setup. It may be under your user profile or on another drive, so do not assume a particular drive letter or a single path such as C:UsersYourNameOneDrivePictures. In File Explorer, select the OneDrive entry in the navigation pane and then open Pictures. This works regardless of the location chosen during setup.
Cloud copy versus local copy
| Where you look | What it shows | What can differ |
|---|---|---|
| OneDrive website | The files uploaded to the signed-in account | Upload may still be pending, or you may be viewing a different account |
| OneDrive folder in File Explorer | The local synchronized representation | Files can be online-only, still syncing, or unavailable if sync is paused |
| Windows Pictures folder outside OneDrive | The original local files | These files are not necessarily backed up unless Pictures is selected in OneDrive backup |
Why there is no universal “Screenshots” folder
Screenshot applications save to different local folders. Windows’ built-in capture tools, graphics programs and browser extensions may use Pictures, Downloads, or an application-specific directory. OneDrive backs up the folders you select; it does not rename every screenshot or move every capture into a single cloud folder.
That is why two Windows computers can show different locations even when both use the same OneDrive account. The OneDrive installation path is chosen during setup, and the source folder used by the screenshot tool is also configurable.

Android: select the device folder that contains screenshots
Android’s OneDrive behavior is controlled by Camera backup. In addition to the camera folder, OneDrive can back up additional device folders, including folders created by other apps.
Enable the screenshot folder
- Open the OneDrive app and switch to the account you want to use.
- Open the app’s Camera backup settings.
- Choose Back up device folders.
- Enable the folder that contains your screenshots. Depending on the phone, it may be named Screenshots or appear under a manufacturer-specific folder.
- Leave the app connected long enough for the upload to finish, then check OneDrive’s photo area.
Choosing the device folder is essential. Installing OneDrive or enabling camera backup alone does not guarantee that every Android screenshot folder is included.
Understand Android’s categorize option
OneDrive provides a categorization control for backed-up device folders. When original organization is retained, the uploaded files keep their source-folder structure. Microsoft’s photo guidance describes categorized uploads as subfolders within Pictures, using Screenshots as an example. If categorization is disabled, images can instead be grouped in the Camera Roll view.
| Android choice | Likely place to inspect |
|---|---|
| Keep original folder organization | Pictures, followed by the retained device-folder hierarchy, such as Screenshots |
| Group uploads in Camera Roll | The Camera Roll/photo view rather than a matching cloud subfolder |
The exact folder name and Android file structure vary by phone maker and Android version. If you cannot find an image, return to Camera backup > Back up device folders and confirm that the folder containing the file is enabled.

iPhone and iPad: camera-roll upload, not a guaranteed Screenshots folder
Microsoft’s documented OneDrive feature for iPhone and iPad is camera upload. In the OneDrive app, open settings for the selected account and enable camera upload, then allow the requested Photos permission. The feature uploads the camera roll, which normally includes screenshots stored in the Photos library.
The official guidance does not establish a separate, universal OneDrive cloud folder named Screenshots for iOS. Check the uploaded photo view and the Pictures area in the selected account rather than relying on a fixed folder name. If a screenshot exists only in another iOS location and is not part of the camera roll, camera upload may not include it.
Camera upload is a backup/upload function, not a two-way synchronization of the phone’s camera roll. Deleting or moving a phone image does not make OneDrive behave like a mirrored file system.
When screenshots are missing
1. Confirm the account
OneDrive can hold several Microsoft accounts. Compare the account shown in the desktop app or mobile settings with the account open in the browser. A screenshot uploaded to a work account will not appear in a personal account’s Pictures folder.

2. Check the source folder, not only the cloud view
On Windows, open the folder where the screenshot tool actually saves files and verify that the file exists. If it is outside the backed-up Pictures folder, move it into a backed-up location or add the appropriate folder to OneDrive backup.
3. Check sync and upload status
A pending cloud icon, paused sync, offline device, or a still-running Android upload can make a file appear to be missing. Resume OneDrive, reconnect the device, and wait for the file’s status to show that synchronization is complete.
4. Recheck Android folder selection
Open Camera backup > Back up device folders and verify the exact folder used by the phone. Gallery apps sometimes save screenshots in a different folder after an operating-system update.
5. Recheck Android organization
If categorization is enabled, inspect Pictures and the retained subfolders. If it is disabled, inspect Camera Roll instead. Searching for the filename or image date can be faster than browsing folders.

6. Recheck iPhone permissions
Make sure OneDrive camera upload is enabled for the intended account and that iOS has granted Photos access. A screenshot that is not in the camera roll, or was created after upload was disabled, will not be uploaded by that feature.
7. Distinguish deletion from non-upload
Before assuming that OneDrive deleted a screenshot, check the original device folder, the signed-in account, and the relevant backup switch. The documented behaviors are selective uploads, not an automatic archive of every image on every platform.

If your goal is to capture a website rather than locate a screenshot already stored on a phone or PC, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from one API request. It is a separate website screenshot service, not a replacement for OneDrive’s device backup.
For API details and all options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. This cURL request captures a page as a WebP file:

Frequently Asked Questions
Does OneDrive always create a folder named Screenshots?
No. Windows uses the backed-up Pictures folder, Android depends on the selected device folder and categorization setting, and iOS documentation does not establish a universal Screenshots cloud folder.
Can I choose a different OneDrive drive or folder on Windows?
The OneDrive sync location is chosen during setup, so the local path can differ between computers. Use the OneDrive entry in File Explorer and open Pictures instead of relying on a fixed path.
