Announced in 2011, it paired support for up to six gauges with a 2D graphics engine, an ARM Cortex-R4 processor and automotive communication interfaces. The launch announcement set a planned sample window, but the available sources do not establish the part’s current availability or lifecycle status.
What Calypso was designed to do
Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe described Calypso as a cost-efficient, single-chip solution for hybrid automotive instrument clusters. A hybrid cluster keeps conventional gauges while adding a digital screen, rather than replacing every instrument with a display. The MB9EF126 was designed to support up to six traditional gauges and drive a color display through Fujitsu’s IRIS 2D graphics engine. EE Times’ 26 August 2011 launch report gives the announcement context; Fujitsu’s MB9EF126 factsheet describes the device’s listed features.

The numerical ratings and feature descriptions above are the specifications reported in the 2011 announcement and Fujitsu factsheet; they are not a statement about current product support or availability.
How the hybrid cluster graphics worked
The concept was to handle gauge signals and digital graphics in one controller. The device’s gauge support addressed the analog-style instruments, while IRIS generated graphics for the color screen. Its four display layers, TCON output and pixel clocks up to 40MHz describe the graphics/display path, not a guarantee that every display panel or vehicle design was supported.

The command sequencer was intended to let the processor and graphics engine work in parallel. Fujitsu also characterized the graphics pipeline as optimized for low memory use. The launch material does not provide benchmark results or enough detail to compare its graphics performance directly with other cluster controllers.
Launch timing and development support
In its 26 August 2011 announcement, Fujitsu said first MB9EF126 samples would be available in Q3 2011. It also planned dedicated boards, software examples and an AUTOSAR MCAL. An IRIS API supported operations such as drawing lines and filling rectangles. CGI Studio was identified as the associated development platform for 2D and 3D graphical interfaces. Those statements describe the launch-era plans and enablement; they do not confirm that samples, boards, software or CGI Studio can be obtained today.

Is the Fujitsu MB9EF126 still available?
The cited material establishes what Fujitsu announced in 2011, not the chip’s present lifecycle status. It does not establish whether MB9EF126 is in production, discontinued, stocked by a distributor, or available through Fujitsu channels. Check directly with Fujitsu or an authorized semiconductor distributor for current lifecycle and inventory information before designing around the part or planning a repair.
