You don’t need all 14 gadgets to work on the move. Start with a laptop, a suitable backpack, and the power and connection gear your work actually requires; add a second screen, call accessories, or stands only if they solve a specific problem. The right kit depends on your laptop, work pattern, and how much extra weight you’re willing to carry.
Build the kit around your work
Use this checklist as a menu, not a ranking or a must-buy list. A laptop and its charging setup are the foundation. The rest depends on whether you need more screen space, reliable access to a network, better call equipment, or a more comfortable temporary desk.
- Laptop: Choose the computer around the software and workload you need to run. Check its charging and port requirements before choosing accessories.
- Padded laptop backpack: Match the sleeve to your laptop and leave room for a charger, cables, and personal essentials. Travelpro lists a padded sleeve for laptops up to 16 inches, while ASUS describes its Archer ErgoAir as fitting an 18-inch laptop with a separate tablet or portable-monitor compartment. Check the live listings and exact dimensions before buying: Travelpro’s backpack listing and ASUS’s Archer ErgoAir details.
- Compact USB-C GaN wall charger: Lenovo’s mobile-work bundle includes a 65 W USB-C GaN charger. That wattage is an example, not a universal laptop requirement; match the charger’s output and charging protocol to your computer. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Laptop-capable power bank: Check output wattage, charging protocol, ports, capacity in watt-hours, size, and weight—not just the mAh figure. Omnicharge lists its Omni Mobile 25600 at 25,600 mAh (92 Wh), with up to 60 W USB-C output and up to 72 W DC output. Those are manufacturer specifications; confirm compatibility with your device. The vendor says this model is within a 100 Wh limit, but that does not establish a universal travel allowance. Check current airline rules for your carrier and route. Omnicharge’s product details.
- USB-C cables: Bring cables rated for the power and data functions your devices require. A connector that fits does not by itself establish that a cable can charge a laptop at the required rate or carry video.
- Portable monitor: Useful when your work benefits from more screen space, but its size and weight are a real trade-off. Compare resolution, weight, connection options, stand, power source, and stated runtime. ViewSonic lists the VG1656N as a 16-inch, 1920 × 1200 display weighing about 3 pounds, with a 4,000 mAh battery rated for up to three hours; the manufacturer says actual runtime varies. Its two-way USB-C power feature does not provide two-way power from the monitor’s battery. ViewSonic VG1656N specifications. ASUS’s ZenScreen Go MB16AWP is another configuration: its listing gives a 7,800 mAh battery and up to 3.5 hours under the specified wireless-mode and volume conditions. - Travel router: Consider one if you need to route or share an existing Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection. A router does not provide internet service or replace a subscription. Check supported modes, power input, VPN setup, and whether the place you’ll work has a connection you can use. D-Link describes Ethernet and Wi-Fi WAN modes and VPN functionality for its DBR-330; its published wireless rates are theoretical, and actual throughput varies with conditions. - USB-C travel dock or hub: A dock can connect peripherals or displays, but check that your laptop supports the required USB-C functions and that the dock meets your display needs. Lenovo includes a dual-display travel dock in its mobile-work bundle; that does not guarantee support for every laptop. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Headset or earbuds: Choose for call quality, microphone, comfort, and the connections your devices support. Lenovo’s bundle includes a wireless VoIP headset, but the best choice depends on how and where you take calls. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Webcam: Add one if your laptop camera does not meet your needs for calls. Lenovo’s bundle includes an FHD webcam; first consider whether your built-in camera is sufficient. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Compact keyboard: A separate keyboard can make sense if you work for long periods at a temporary desk. Lenovo’s bundle includes a wireless keyboard and mouse set. Check the connection type and whether carrying both is worthwhile for your work. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Compact mouse: Consider one if you prefer it to a trackpad, and weigh portability against the comfort and control you want at a temporary desk. Lenovo includes a mouse with its wireless keyboard set. Lenovo’s bundle listing.
- Tech organizer pouch: A pouch can keep small accessories together. Check its actual dimensions and protection limits: UGREEN lists its 50903 organizer at 20.3 × 12.9 × 7.2 cm and approximately 200 g. The India listing says pictured accessories are not included and that the case is neither waterproof nor crush-proof; regional pricing and warranty may differ elsewhere. - Phone stand or laptop stand: Optional for arranging a temporary workspace. Choose based on how you plan to use it, its folded size, and whether it fits your bag; no particular model or ergonomic outcome is established here.
How to choose the optional gear
Decide whether a second screen earns its space
First check whether your laptop supports the display connection you plan to use. Compare the monitor’s physical size and resolution, weight, ports, stand, and power options. USB-C video support, HDMI, and wireless casting are not interchangeable features, and wireless compatibility depends on the monitor and operating system. Read the exact model’s specifications rather than assuming features carry across a brand’s range. A display weighing around three pounds, like the listed ViewSonic example, is a substantial addition to a travel bag.

Match power gear to the device
Confirm your laptop’s charging wattage and protocol, then choose a wall charger and power bank with compatible output and connectors. Capacity alone does not tell you whether a bank can charge your laptop at the rate it needs. Compare watt-hours, output, ports, dimensions, and weight; consult current carrier rules before flying with a power bank.

Make sure a router solves your actual connection problem
A travel router can help route or share a connection already available at your location. Before packing one, establish whether you expect Ethernet or Wi-Fi, whether the router supports that mode, and whether its VPN features work with your setup. Manufacturer speed figures are not promised real-world throughput.
Check fit, weight, and protection before packing
Measure the laptop, any portable display, and the accessories you plan to carry. Compare those dimensions with the backpack’s compartments, then account for the combined weight and space taken by chargers and cables. For organizers, verify dimensions and read the stated limits on water and impact protection rather than inferring protection from appearance.

Pack only what your work needs
- For basic work: laptop, compatible charger, necessary cables, and a backpack with a correctly sized padded compartment.
- For extended time away from outlets: add a compatible power bank after checking its output and current travel rules.
- For a connection you need to share or route: consider a travel router only when you can use an existing Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.
- For multitasking or calls: add a portable monitor, headset, webcam, keyboard, or mouse only where the laptop’s built-in features are not enough.
- For easier packing: use an organizer pouch if it fits your accessories and its protection limits suit your needs.
