October’s clearest scheduled crypto milestone is Ethereum’s Glamsterdam testnet activation on October 6—not a mainnet upgrade. Bitcoin’s near-term picture depends on shifting market conditions, including reported ETF demand, while XRP Ledger upgrade dates discussed for October remain tentative. As of October 3, there is no sound basis for a month-end price prediction for any of the three assets.
October’s key catalysts at a glance
| Asset | October watch item | Timing and confidence | What it does—and does not—tell you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin (BTC) | Spot Bitcoin ETF flows and broader market conditions | Ongoing market drivers; reported figures are dated snapshots, not a scheduled event | Can help describe recent demand, but does not establish October’s direction or a price target. |
| Ethereum (ETH) | Glamsterdam activation on Sepolia | Scheduled for October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC; Hoodi and mainnet dates are not set | A testnet protocol milestone, not a mainnet launch or a guaranteed price catalyst. |
| XRP | Possible XRPL Batch and permission-delegation changes | Reported as possible in October; activation timing is not confirmed by the primary XRPL material cited here | Treat dates as conditional until confirmed through XRPL’s own channels. |
What could move Bitcoin in October?
ETF demand is a recent signal, not a forecast
Crypto.com’s October 2026 market article reported about $2.4 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows for the week ending September 25, 2026. That is a secondary publication’s figure for one specific week; it is not an October total, an independently verified flow dataset, or evidence that inflows will continue. The same article described Bitcoin as entering October after September gains and pointed to ETF demand and macro conditions as relevant factors.
There is no confirmed October price target
Those reports provide market context, not a reliable basis for calling a rally or a decline. ETF flows and macro conditions can change, and the available reporting does not establish a deterministic Bitcoin event or October price outcome. Treat any price level or flow total as time-bound commentary, not a promise about the month ahead.

The scheduled activation is on Sepolia, not mainnet
The Ethereum Foundation’s September 28 announcement schedules Glamsterdam for the Sepolia test network at epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768, corresponding to October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC. The Foundation says Hoodi and mainnet activation times will be announced once client teams decide them. In practical terms, October 6 is a test-network milestone; it is not the date Ethereum’s main network will receive the upgrade.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
What the announced changes are intended to do
The upgrade’s headline components include enshrined proposer-builder separation (EIP-7732), block-level access lists (EIP-7928), and changes to gas accounting and pricing. At a high level, these are protocol changes intended to support Layer 1 scaling and alter how parts of block production and execution are handled. They represent development work to test and evaluate, not an automatic increase in ETH demand or price.
Who needs to act
The Foundation says ordinary Ethereum mainnet users do not need to take action for this Sepolia announcement. Operators running Sepolia nodes and validators need compatible execution and consensus clients to participate in the testnet activation. Anyone responsible for such infrastructure should follow current Ethereum Foundation and client-team notices, since implementation details and protocol specifications can evolve.

How firm are the reported XRP Ledger upgrade dates?
Late-September secondary coverage described the Batch V1.1 upgrade as delayed into October pending validator support, and said permission-delegation could arrive as early as October 8. These are reported possibilities, not confirmed activation dates in the primary XRPL material cited here. Check XRPL’s official status and announcement channels for confirmation before treating either change as scheduled. Until then, the timing is uncertain.
What October’s SEC announcements do—and do not—mean
The SEC Crypto Newsroom lists an August 18, 2026 proposed “Regulation Crypto Assets” release and proposal announcements concerning custody rules on October 1, 2026. These entries show that rulemaking proposals are active; proposals and related comment processes are not final rules or settled legal outcomes. Their eventual effects should not be treated as decided based on proposal notices alone.

How to read crypto outlooks this month
- Check the date and scope. A weekly fund-flow figure, a late-September market level, and a scheduled testnet activation describe different things. None should be silently treated as a current monthly total or a mainnet event.
- Separate network progress from market performance. A protocol upgrade can be technically important without determining an asset’s short-term price.
- Distinguish confirmed schedules from reports. Ethereum’s Sepolia time is published by the Foundation; the XRP dates above remain conditional in the reporting available here.
- Be cautious with seasonal labels. Calling October “Uptober” does not establish how this October will perform.
- Expect outlooks to change. Flow data, upgrade notices, and regulatory actions may be updated; an October 3 snapshot cannot settle the month’s eventual direction.
