If passwords stop autofilling after you switch from Chrome Password Manager, first search for the login in your new manager. If it is there, check that the manager is enabled for the browser or device you are using; if it fills on other sites but not one, troubleshoot that site’s login form. A completed transfer does not automatically configure autofill everywhere.
1. Check whether your passwords arrived
Open the destination password manager and search for the website domain, app name, or account name. A login that does not appear as an autofill suggestion may still have transferred: Google notes that an app or site name can land in an unexpected field, and recommends searching for it. If you used a file import, check the import result and make sure the file had the format required by your destination. For Google Password Manager on a computer, Google’s import instructions require a CSV with url, username, and password column headers. Google documents a limit of 3,000 passwords per import and 10,000 passwords stored in a Google Account; these are product limits, not estimates of how many logins should transfer. If you transferred directly on Android, Google announced on September 10, 2026, a manager-to-manager transfer flow that avoids downloading an export file. At the time of that announcement, the flow was for Android 8 and later and named Google Password Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden, and Dashlane as available managers. The user starts the transfer in the destination manager, reviews the detected installed managers and authorizes the transfer. 2. Make sure the new manager is allowed to autofill
On a computer with a browser extension
- Confirm the destination manager’s extension is installed in the browser profile you are using, enabled, and unlocked.
- Check that the saved login is associated with the correct website address or URI. A saved entry may not match a site if its address is missing or different.
- If another password manager is also active, it may compete for autofill. Bitwarden recommends setting its extension as the default and turning off the browser’s built-in password manager when using Bitwarden. These instructions are specific to Bitwarden; use the destination manager’s own guidance for another product. See Bitwarden’s browser-extension autofill instructions.
On Android
Android’s system autofill service and the browser’s own integration can both affect filling. Check the system autofill-service selection as well as the destination app’s autofill settings. If you use Bitwarden in Chrome or Brave, Bitwarden documents browser-specific integration settings; its Chrome integration requires Chrome 135 or later. In Firefox for Android
Open Settings → Logins and passwords. Check the switch that matches where you want autofill: Autofill in Firefox is on by default, while Autofill in other apps is off by default. Mozilla documents these separately because filling logins in Firefox and filling them in other Android apps are distinct settings: Firefox for Android saved-login and autofill settings.

3. Find out whether the problem affects every site or just one
Try a second login page whose credentials are saved in the new manager. If autofill works there, the manager is probably available and the issue may be specific to the first site: its login fields, the saved entry’s website match, an embedded frame, or the site’s login flow. Chrome says it may not detect the right login fields, so a transfer can succeed even when a particular form does not fill. See Google’s troubleshooting guidance.
For Bitwarden’s browser extension, the saved item needs an assigned website URI for autofill. Bitwarden also documents manual and keyboard-shortcut filling when automatic detection does not work. Autofill on page load is off by default; Bitwarden warns that enabling it can expose credentials to compromised or untrusted sites. Do not weaken that safeguard just to make one form fill automatically. See Bitwarden’s extension autofill guidance.

4. Choose a migration method that fits your device

Neither method, by itself, proves that the new manager is selected as the autofill provider or that every site’s fields will be recognized. Those settings depend on the destination manager, browser, device, and site.

After a file-based transfer, delete the CSV or other password export from Downloads, Desktop, temporary folders, and any cloud-synced location where you copied it. Google warns that another person using the device could open a retained CSV and access the passwords; Bitwarden likewise directs users to remove export files after import. Quick diagnosis by symptom
- The login is not in the new manager: search by site, app, and account name; then check the migration path and import result.
- The login is present, but nothing autofills anywhere: check that the extension or Android autofill service is enabled, selected, and unlocked.
- Autofill works on other sites, but not this one: check the saved website address and use the manager’s manual-fill option if available.
- You used a CSV: remove the export file once you have finished importing.
