If a Meta AI answer seems wrong, don’t rely on it for a consequential decision: check its claims against reliable sources, then use the response-feedback or source-reporting control available in the app. If the answer is unwanted, you can also reset information shared in an AI chat with /reset-ai. These actions serve different purposes, and none should be treated as a universal way to disable Meta AI across every Meta app.
Verify the answer before acting on it
Meta says its AI may not have the most complete or recent information and may return inaccurate or inappropriate outputs. Treat an answer as a claim to check, especially when it concerns health, safety, money, legal matters, or another decision with real consequences.

- If Meta AI includes a source or link, open it and see whether it actually supports the specific claim.
- For important facts, compare the answer with authoritative primary sources or other trusted references.
- Do not assume there is a universal in-product fact-check button; the available controls depend on the product surface.
Meta describes these limitations in its responsible AI information and says AI can produce inaccurate or inappropriate responses.

Give feedback on a bad response
WhatsApp Web
On WhatsApp Web, hover over the Meta AI message or image and choose Bad response to flag the answer, or Good response to rate it positively. These are the steps described by the WhatsApp Help Center; they are specific to WhatsApp Web and should not be assumed to match the controls in Messenger, Instagram, the standalone Meta AI app, or another WhatsApp interface. On those surfaces, look for feedback controls attached to the response.

Meta says it reviews feedback to assess whether responses are helpful or comply with its guidelines, and says it uses feedback in ongoing model training. That does not promise an immediate correction to the answer you saw or a personal reply to your submission. Meta characterizes feedback as an input to improvement, not a guarantee about the result of any individual report.
Report a questionable source or link separately
If a Meta AI answer includes an internet source or link that appears misleading or otherwise concerning, use WhatsApp’s separate Help Center guidance for reporting a source or link used in a response from Meta AI. Reporting a source is not the same as rating the response: the first flags the cited source or link, while the second gives feedback about the answer. Neither establishes whether the underlying claim is true, so verify important information independently.
Delete information shared in an AI chat
Meta says you can type /reset-ai in a conversation to delete information shared in an AI chat across Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp. Meta’s description is limited to information shared in that AI chat; it does not say the command erases all account data, all records of data processing, or information outside the chat.

Meta also says that in group chats with friends and family where someone invokes Meta AI, the AI reads messages that invoke @Meta AI or replies that invoke @Meta AI, rather than other messages in the chat. See Meta’s AI privacy information for its explanation of these controls and data practices.
Reduce unwanted appearances without assuming there is a global off switch
Meta AI appears in multiple products, and settings can vary by app and change over time. An Associated Press report from May 30, 2024 described muting Meta AI in some Facebook and Instagram entry points, but noted that muting did not remove it everywhere. Those are dated observations, not reliable current instructions for every app, device, region, or interface.
To reduce an unwanted appearance, first identify where it is showing up—such as a search entry point, chat, feed, or standalone app—then check that product’s current settings and Help Center. The current controls for muting or disabling Meta AI across all Meta surfaces are not established here, so do not count on a single setting to turn it off everywhere. Meta’s April 29, 2025 announcement also treats the standalone Meta AI app as a distinct product surface and acknowledged possible technical issues or inconsistencies at launch; troubleshooting steps for one surface may not apply to another.
