What you should do depends first on whether the bond is an ordinary bearer National Prize Bond or a registered Premium Prize Bond. A lost bearer bond generally cannot be stopped or replaced under the published rules. A damaged bearer bond may be assessed if enough of the genuine document remains. A lost registered Premium Prize Bond has a separate duplicate process.
First identify the bond type
Check the bond itself for its type, denomination and any registration details. The rules differ because ordinary National Prize Bonds are bearer instruments, while Premium Prize Bonds are registered in an investor’s name.
| Bond and situation | What the official guidance provides |
|---|---|
| Ordinary bearer bond, missing entirely | Published guidance does not provide a stop-payment or replacement route. The refund rules exclude claims for bonds alleged lost, stolen or wholly destroyed. (National Savings FAQ; Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963) |
| Ordinary bearer bond, damaged | An authorized officer may assess a face-value claim under the 1963 rules. The outcome depends on the bond’s condition and examination. (Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963) |
| Registered Premium Prize Bond, lost | A duplicate-bond procedure is listed using PPB-7 or PPB-7(A), as applicable, with a legible FIR copy. (Premium Prize Bond rules; SBP PPB-7 form) |
If an ordinary bearer bond is missing
Do not assume that reporting the loss to police, remembering the serial number or having a photograph will secure payment or produce a replacement. National Savings explains that a bearer bond belongs to its holder and that payment cannot be stopped simply because the bond is reported lost. The 1963 refund rules say a claim for a bond alleged lost, stolen or wholly destroyed will not be entertained. (National Savings FAQ; Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963)
You can contact SBP or National Savings for case-specific guidance, but the published sources do not establish a lost-bearer-bond replacement procedure.

If a bearer bond is damaged or its number is hard to read
A partly unreadable serial number does not by itself establish that a claim will be approved. Keep the bond and every fragment unchanged; do not tape, write on, laminate, cut or otherwise alter it. Take the document to an SBP BSC field office for official assessment and ask how to submit the current form. This is a practical way to have an authorized officer examine the surviving portion; it is not a guarantee that the number can be reconstructed or the claim accepted.
What the face-value rules require
Under the Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963, the authorized officer must be satisfied that the portion presented is part of a genuine bond and that the missing portion is too small to be used to support another claim. The rules exclude a claim when no more than half of the bond is presented, so more than half must remain. A claim may also be rejected if the officer believes the damage was deliberate or intended to support a false claim. (Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963)
Form for a damaged bond
SBP lists PB-1-A, “Application for Payment of face value of Mutilated/Defaced Prize Bonds.” Get the current form from the SBP Prize Bonds forms page and ask the relevant SBP BSC office about submission requirements. The rules call for official examination, so avoid attempting a repair yourself.

A face-value claim for a damaged bond is not the same as a prize-money claim for a winning bond. National Savings says a prize claim requires the prescribed claim form, a valid CNIC photocopy, the original winning bond and a signed copy of the bond. It gives six years from the relevant draw as the claim period and says claims are usually lodged several working days after the draw. The FAQ also says claim forms are free. SBP lists PB-23 as the Prize Money Claim Application Form. (National Savings FAQ; SBP Prize Bonds forms)

An online number check or photograph is not a substitute for the original where the published prize-claim requirements call for it. If the original is damaged, take it for assessment and ask the office whether to submit a prize claim, a damaged-bond face-value claim, or both. The published guidance does not spell out every circumstance in which a damaged instrument may be considered for both.
If a registered Premium Prize Bond is missing
For a lost Premium Prize Bond, the rules provide a duplicate process for the registered investor. Submit PPB-7 or PPB-7(A), as applicable, with a legible copy of the FIR. The replacement is of equivalent face value, carries a new serial number and is issued in the registered investor’s name. Confirm the applicable form and current submission details with the issuing office. (Premium Prize Bond rules; SBP PPB-7 form)

SBP publishes separate guidance for certain withdrawn high-denomination bearer bonds. Its FAQ says damaged withdrawn bonds may be presented at 16 SBP BSC field offices and are handled under the Prize Bonds Refund Rules, 1963, through specified conversion or encashment options rather than ordinary cash-counter redemption. Check current SBP notices or contact the Bank before traveling, since deadlines and instructions may change. (SBP withdrawn prize bonds FAQ)

How to contact the right office
- Identify the bond type, denomination and whether it is registered. Keep all surviving pieces together and do not alter the document.
- For a damaged bearer bond, check SBP’s PB-1-A listing and ask an SBP BSC field office about assessment and submission. For a possible win, check PB-23 and the prize-claim requirements separately.
- For a missing registered Premium Prize Bond, ask the issuing office about PPB-7 or PPB-7(A) and the required legible FIR copy.
- For a missing bearer bond, understand that published guidance does not provide a stop-payment or replacement route; contact SBP or National Savings for advice about your circumstances.
- SBP’s customer facilitation page lists the call-center UAN as +92-21-111-727-273. Confirm the office location, hours, current form version and any applicable withdrawn-bond deadline before traveling. (SBP customer facilitation)
