If your faja hurts, keeps rolling or bunching, or irritates your skin, take it off and check the affected area. Don’t fold or roll the edge to make it stay in place: folds can concentrate pressure. If a clinician prescribed the garment or it is part of post-operative care, contact your care team before changing its fit or wear schedule.
My faja is too tight: what should I do?
Remove it if you have pain or ongoing discomfort, then inspect your skin. A garment that feels uncomfortable needs a fit reassessment; Cleveland Clinic’s general shapewear advice is to try a larger size if shapewear causes discomfort. That advice is not a substitute for instructions about a prescribed recovery garment.
For medical compression garments, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says you should not have ongoing discomfort. Its guidance, reviewed May 1, 2026, advises stopping use for new numbness or tingling, increased swelling, skin irritation, blisters, or wounds. Read the VA’s compression garment guidance.

Why does my faja keep rolling down?
Rolling or bunching can create a band of concentrated pressure instead of distributing pressure evenly. Take the faja off rather than folding or rolling its edge as a workaround. Once your skin has settled, check whether the size, shape, or construction suits your body and intended use. For ordinary shapewear, a different size, brand, or style may be worth considering. If the garment is part of treatment or recovery, ask the prescribing clinician or surgical team about fit and adjustments.
My faja is rubbing my skin: when should I get help?
After removing it, look for persistent redness, hot spots, blisters, open or sore areas, unusual skin color, swelling, numbness, or tingling. The VA advises reporting redness, blisters, calluses, or hot spots that remain more than 20–30 minutes after removing a compression garment. That interval is VA patient guidance, not a universal diagnostic threshold.

Give irritated skin a break from friction and pressure. Cleveland Clinic advises waiting until skin clears before trying another brand or a larger size for ordinary shapewear. Seek medical advice if irritation persists or worsens, skin opens, or you notice signs of infection. MedlinePlus recommends contacting a provider if a skin change lasts more than a few days or becomes painful, warm, or starts draining pus. Can I wear a bigger size after surgery?
Don’t size up, stop wearing, or change the schedule for a post-operative or clinician-prescribed faja on your own. Contact your surgeon or prescribing clinician to ask whether the garment needs adjustment or replacement and how long you should wear it. The right fit and schedule depend on your individual care plan; general shapewear sizing advice does not establish a safe post-surgery size or protocol.
