If someone has shared an intimate image of you without your consent, report the specific post to the platform, keep a basic record of where it appeared if you can do so safely, and ask someone you trust to help. If the image was made when you were under 18, use the age-specific Take It Down guidance. Removal and reporting options vary by platform and location, but you do not have to handle this alone.
Start with steps that protect you and preserve your options
- Report the post to the platform. Use the report option on the image or post, or the platform’s support process. Save a report confirmation or case number if one is provided. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) describes both post-level reporting and platform support routes.
- Record details only if it is safe. Note the post’s URL or account, where and when you found it, who shared it if known, and any threats or demands. RAINN recommends preserving evidence when safe and writing down the circumstances. Do not forward or redistribute the intimate image to create a record.
- Ask for help. A trusted person or support specialist can help you work through the steps one at a time. RAINN recommends seeking support, especially when the situation feels difficult to manage alone.
Choose the right image-removal or prevention route

If the image was made when you were under 18
Use Take It Down guidance even if you are now an adult: the relevant distinction is your age when the image or video was made. Follow the service’s instructions and avoid sending or posting the image to other people.
If the platform does not remove the image
In the United States, the FTC says the Take It Down Act requires covered online platforms to provide a way to request removal of intimate images shared without consent, including deepfakes, and to remove covered images and copies within 48 hours of a request. That deadline applies to requests and platforms covered by the Act; it should not be assumed to apply in other countries or to every service or situation.
If a covered U.S. platform has not acted within 48 hours, FTC guidance directs people to report it at TakeItDown.ftc.gov. The FTC form asks which platform is involved and where the image was posted. Keep your platform report confirmation or case number if available, so you can refer to it when escalating.

Find reporting and support options where you live
For U.S. readers, FTC image-based-abuse guidance points to local criminal law enforcement and the FBI for reporting perpetrators, and describes support resources available through TakeItDown.ftc.gov. Reporting does not guarantee an investigation, prosecution, or removal, but these are available routes to consider.
Options differ elsewhere. Singapore’s Online Safety Commission describes an eligibility-based reporting route and advises saving evidence if you may also report to police or take legal action. In British Columbia, the Intimate Images Protection Service offers reporting guidance, help with applications, and emotional support. These are location-specific services; check the relevant local service for eligibility and current instructions. For legal questions, seek qualified advice in your jurisdiction.

Consent to taking or private sharing is not consent to wider distribution
You may have agreed to have an image taken or to share it privately without agreeing to its wider publication. Google’s reporting guidance makes this distinction explicitly. Responsibility lies with the person who shared the image without consent, not with the person depicted.
