If Apple Watch blood oxygen readings are unavailable, first check that your watch, age, and region are eligible. Then distinguish a missing Blood Oxygen app from a measurement that will not finish or results that are simply in a different place. For some US-purchased watches, results are analyzed and shown on the paired iPhone in Health rather than on the watch.
Check whether your Apple Watch can use Blood Oxygen
Apple supports the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch Series 6 or later and all Apple Watch Ultra models. It is not supported on Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch For Your Kids. Apple also says the app is designed for users who are at least 18. Availability varies by country or region, so confirm that it is offered where you are using Apple’s current availability and requirements information.
If your watch model, age, or region is not eligible, the app may not appear and a measurement will not be available. These checks are more useful than assuming a missing reading means the watch is damaged.

There is a special results path for Apple Watch models purchased in the United States on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A or LS/A. Apple says analysis for these models takes place on the paired iPhone, and results are viewed in the iPhone Health app. This experience requires the latest iOS and watchOS, according to Apple’s Blood Oxygen instructions.

Do not look for the data in Vitals on an affected model ending in LW/A: Apple’s watchOS 26 guide says Blood Oxygen is not available there for those US models. The key distinction is that the Vitals display is unavailable, while Blood Oxygen results can still be found in Health on the paired iPhone.
If the Blood Oxygen app is missing
- Confirm eligibility. Check your model, age, and region using the requirements above.
- Update both devices. Install the latest available software on the paired iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple does not specify a fixed version in its current instructions; use the latest releases available for your devices.
- Search the watch App Store. Open the App Store on Apple Watch, search for Blood Oxygen, and download the app if it is available. If you deleted it, install it again from the watch App Store.
Apple’s complete setup guidance is in How to use the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch.

If Apple Watch won’t take a blood oxygen reading
Try an on-demand measurement with a steady fit
- Wear the watch snugly but comfortably, with its back touching your wrist.
- Open Blood Oxygen on the watch and tap Start.
- Rest your arm on a table or your lap. Keep your wrist and palm flat, with the watch face facing up.
- Stay still for the full 15-second countdown.
If wrist bones prevent the back of the watch from sitting against your skin, Apple suggests moving the watch 2.5 to 5 cm (about 1 to 2 inches) up your arm. The fit should remain comfortable; the point is steady contact, not tightening the band uncomfortably.
Consider conditions that can interfere
A failed attempt can have several causes and does not by itself establish a hardware fault. Apple says cold can reduce blood flow at the wrist; some tattoos can block sensor light; movement or certain positions can disrupt a measurement. An arm hanging at your side or fingers held in a fist may cause difficulty, and a resting heart rate above 150 bpm prevents a successful reading. Try again after warming up, resting your arm, and holding the recommended position.

Apple Support notes: “Even under ideal conditions, your Apple Watch may not be able to get a reliable blood oxygen measurement every time.” Apple says the majority of people have blood oxygen levels of 95–100%, but some people live normally below 95% and slightly lower values are expected during sleep. This is general context, not a diagnostic threshold.
Where to find Apple Watch blood oxygen results
On the paired iPhone, open Health, tap Search, then Respiratory and Blood Oxygen. Apple says on-demand readings and background readings are saved there. For the US-purchased LW/A or LS/A models described above, the iPhone Health app is where analysis and results are handled.

Background readings happen occasionally when enabled, and their frequency varies with activity. To collect measurements during sleep, turn on Track Sleep with Apple Watch. For more about overnight and daytime measurements, see Apple’s vitals guidance.
When an unavailable reading is not a medical answer
Apple says Blood Oxygen measurements are for general fitness and wellness, not medical use, self-diagnosis, or consultation with a doctor. Do not use the app as a substitute for medical care or to interpret a health concern. If you are concerned about symptoms or your health, contact a qualified medical professional.
