Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallShut down the PC and unplug it before inspecting an RTX 5090 power connector that is unusually hot, discolored, deformed, or smells burnt. Do not keep gaming, run a stress test, or power the system back on if the cable or GPU socket shows damage. A damaged cable must be replaced with one approved for the exact power-supply model; a damaged GPU socket or fused connector needs manufacturer or qualified service.
What to do first
- Stop using the PC. If it is safe to do so, shut it down normally. If there is smoke, active burning, or an immediate electrical hazard, cut power by the safest available method and keep clear of the connection. Do not run a load to see whether the problem happens again.
- Disconnect power. After shutdown, unplug the PC’s power cord before touching or inspecting the connector. ASUS’s safety instructions likewise say to power off and unplug before proceeding: ASUS GPU Tweak III Power Detector+ troubleshooting.
- Inspect without forcing anything. Look at the cable and its connectors at both ends, as well as the GPU’s power socket. Check for browning or other discoloration, melting, deformation, damaged or broken pins, looseness, or other overheating signs. ASUS specifically advises checking the cable for bending, deformation, or overheating and checking that the GPU input is clean and its pins are not damaged.
If the connector is stuck or appears fused, do not force it apart or attempt a repair. Keep the system unplugged and contact the GPU manufacturer or a qualified service provider.
Can you use the PC with a discolored GPU power cable?
No. Treat visible discoloration, melting, deformation, or other signs of overheating as a stop-use condition. Do not power the system back on to test it, even if the PC still works. ASUS says a bent, deformed, or overheated cable should be replaced immediately; its guidance also advises against low-quality or uncertified adapter cables.
If you find damage on the GPU-side socket rather than only on the cable, do not try a replacement cable as a workaround. The card needs manufacturer or qualified service assessment.

When it is safe to reseat the connector
Only consider reseating if the cable, connector, pins, and GPU socket all appear clean and undamaged. With the PC unplugged, ensure the plug is fully inserted and latched, with no visible gap. ASUS says a distinct click should be heard and, for a bundled adapter, both ends should be firmly connected. Seasonic’s cable guidance similarly says connectors must be inserted, click-locked, and seated properly: Seasonic 90° 12VHPWR cable specifications and recommendations.
After installation, avoid bending the cable or applying force close to the connector. Reseating is not a remedy for a discolored, melted, deformed, or otherwise damaged part.

- 【Compatibility】Designed specifically for RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 graphics cards, and fully compatible with ATX 3.0/3.1 power supplies.
- 【650W & PCIe 5.0】Complies with PCIe 5.0 standards, featuring 16AWG thickened alloy copper cores. This design delivers greater current capacity and lower voltage drop, ensuring stable operation without frame drops.
- 【Premium 16AWG Material】The internal core conductor boasts ultra-low resistance, so it won’t overheat during long hours of full-load operation. The thickened wire enhances heat dissipation and current transmission efficiency, meeting the strict stability requirements of professional gamers
- 【Fixed Length】Exclusively 15.75 in (40cm) long, this cable fits perfectly in both compact ITX cases and full-tower setups. Its split wire design allows for easy cable management.
- 【Injection-Molded Reinforcement】The connector and wire root are integrated via secondary injection molding, effectively preventing loose connections, overheating, and bending damage.
Choose the right replacement or service path
| What you find after unplugging | What to do |
|---|---|
| Visible damage is limited to the cable; the GPU socket looks undamaged | Do not reuse the cable. Replace it only with a cable approved by the PSU manufacturer for the exact PSU model. |
| The GPU socket is discolored or damaged, the connector is fused, or pins are damaged | Leave the PC unplugged and contact the GPU maker or a qualified service provider. Do not force the connector apart or attempt speculative repairs. |
| Everything looks normal, but a warning remains | Follow the GPU maker’s support procedure and seek service if the warning persists. Do not repeatedly swap cables or continue using the PC to see whether the alert clears. |
Modular PSU cables are not interchangeable just because they share a 16-pin connector shape. Check the PSU maker’s compatibility information for the exact model before ordering a replacement; Seasonic’s compatibility guidance applies to the specified Seasonic cable and listed PSU lines, not to every PSU brand or model. A new cable or upgraded PSU cannot be assumed to fix a damaged GPU socket or a persistent warning.

Warranty and service routing depends on the card and region. NVIDIA’s warranty page for the United States covers Founders Edition cards and directs users with a suspected defect to NVIDIA Customer Care; cards sold under partner brands are covered by the relevant add-in-board partner. - The Hydra-16PIN has **A and B models **:Model B:The 4-pin head (of the 16 pin) is toward to the cable direction; Model A: The 4-pin head (of the 16 pin) is toward to the opposite direction of the cable. More in line with personalized need
- RGB Lights are controllable. (Compatible with motherboard RGB Software or OPENRGB)
- 90° Right-Angle Design**: No need for cable bending, ensuring complete contact with all cable terminals. Plug-and-play for enhanced wiring flexibility and neatness.
For ASUS GPU Tweak III Power Detector+ warnings, use ASUS’s instructions for that feature; they are not a universal diagnostic method for every RTX 5090. ASUS says to contact its service center if the alert continues after the recommended checks. Other card makers may have different warning indicators and support steps.
