If a rechargeable portable lamp will not turn on or charge, first identify its exact model and follow that model’s manual. Charging rules, indicator lights, and battery access differ: some lamps must be switched off to charge, while others can be used while plugged in. Then check the power source and cable, observe the model-specific charging indicator, and contact the manufacturer or seller if the prescribed charging attempt fails. Do not open a sealed lamp or force anything into its charging port.
Start with the lamp’s model and charging instructions
Find the model name or number on the lamp, packaging, or product documentation, then consult its manual or manufacturer support page. Confirm the correct charging connector and power input, whether the lamp must be off while charging, what its indicator means, and whether the battery is intended to be user-accessible. A matching connector shape alone does not prove that a cable or power source is suitable.
Instructions can differ even between familiar product types. Feit Electric’s instructions for the cited lamp say, “IMPORTANT: Charge only while OFF.” By contrast, Xiaomi says its Flexible Rechargeable Lamp can be used while plugged in. Follow your own lamp’s directions rather than applying one model’s behavior to another.
Check the power source, cable, and charging port
- Test the power source. Where practical, check the wall outlet or USB power source with another known-working device.
- Reconnect both ends. Disconnect and reconnect the cable at the lamp and at the power source, making sure the connection is secure without forcing it.
- Try the supplied cable. Use the cable that came with the lamp for the first troubleshooting attempt. Manufacturers including Fenix and GUBI recommend the supplied cable for the models covered by their guidance.
- Inspect without probing. Look for visible damage to the cable or port. Do not force a connector, insert tools into the port, or attempt to clear it by poking inside.
- Confirm the required input. Check the manual for the specified power input and connector. The available manufacturer guidance does not establish one charger rating that applies to every portable lamp.
Charge it in the way the manufacturer specifies
If the manual says to charge the lamp while it is off, switch it off before connecting the charger. For its cited lamp, Feit Electric advises disconnecting and reconnecting the charger if the lamp will not turn on, then leaving the lamp off while it charges. That instruction is specific to the covered product, not a universal reset method.

Use the charge duration prescribed for your exact model. GUBI advises charging its listed lamp models overnight with the supplied cable before escalating; do not treat overnight charging as a rule for other lamps. Once you have completed the manufacturer’s stated attempt, stop rather than repeatedly trying incompatible chargers or improvising a reset.
Read the charging indicator for your exact model
Indicator colors and blinking patterns are not standardized. Check the manual for the lamp’s own meanings before deciding that it is charging or that the battery has failed.

For example, Xiaomi’s Flexible Rechargeable Lamp FAQ says rapid blinking means the battery is below 15%, slow blinking means the lamp is being charged, and a steady indicator while plugged in means it is fully charged. Those meanings apply to that Xiaomi model only.
If the lamp is new, check for a shipping insulator only when accessible
Some Fenix lights ship with a plastic insulator tab in the battery compartment. If a new lamp appears completely unresponsive, check the manual for a shipping tab. Remove it only if the lamp’s design provides a user-accessible battery compartment and the manufacturer’s directions permit access. Do not open a sealed lamp to look for one.

Consider prolonged empty storage and battery service
A battery left flat and uncharged for a long time may have suffered deep discharge. GUBI warns that, for its products, this can permanently reduce the battery’s ability to hold a charge. This is a possible explanation for a lamp that remains dead after the prescribed charge attempt, not proof that every non-charging lamp has a failed battery.
Battery replacement options vary by model. GUBI’s support information illustrates that some lamps may have a replaceable battery while others require a larger assembly. Check the manufacturer’s service information or ask the dealer what parts and repair options are available for your specific lamp.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact the seller or maker
- The cable, connector, or charging port appears damaged.
- The lamp still will not charge or turn on after the model’s prescribed charging attempt.
- The lamp was stored empty for an extended period and does not recover.
- You cannot confirm the correct charging input, battery access procedure, or replacement part for the model.
Contact the seller or manufacturer for the correct claims or service route. GUBI directs customers to its claims process or dealer, and Fatboy advises contacting its dealer if the battery no longer charges. Do not open a sealed lithium-battery lamp or attempt board-level repair.
