Before ordering a newly launched phone in India, compare the amount you will actually pay with the conditions attached to any discount, exchange, and warranty. Check the exact model variant, seller, dated offer, and checkout terms: a headline launch price or “effective price” may depend on a card, eligibility, or an old phone passing inspection.
1. Confirm the phone, seller, and price you are comparing
A launch announcement, brand store, marketplace listing, and offline retailer may show different prices or attach different conditions. Start with the exact RAM and storage variant and the seller that will issue your invoice. The National Consumer Helpline says consumers have a right to know a product’s quality, price, and standards before purchase: National Consumer Helpline.
- Record the listed phone price and the amount due at checkout.
- Separate automatic price reductions from card, EMI, coupon, or other eligibility-dependent offers.
- Check the actual checkout for payment conditions and additional charges.
- If the advertised “effective price” includes exchange, record the phone price and exchange value separately. Someone without an eligible old phone may not receive the same effective price.
Offers change, so keep the dated listing and terms for the exact seller and variant you intend to buy. There is no single India-wide launch price or offer established for an unnamed phone.
2. Check the warranty for the exact model and purchase channel
Do not assume every brand—or every seller—offers the same coverage. Read the India warranty policy for the phone you are buying, and confirm the seller qualifies under it. Check these points before payment:

- Whether the policy covers phones sold in India and whether your seller is authorised.
- What proof of purchase is required and when the warranty period starts.
- How long the phone and included accessories are covered.
- Which manufacturing or functional defects are covered, and which damage or circumstances are excluded.
- Whether the remedy is repair, replacement, or another option, and how to locate an authorised service centre.
- Whether an extended or promotional warranty requires registration or separate activation.
Published policies illustrate why checking matters. vivo says its India policy applies only to vivo handsets sold in India, requires valid proof of purchase for warranty service, and provides a one-year handset warranty. It also describes a replacement-or-repair option for a functional error within 30 days of purchase. Read the vivo India warranty terms for the applicable conditions.
Google’s India hardware warranty page describes a two-year limited warranty for the phone and one year for accessories when purchased from Google or an authorised reseller. Depending on the policy, the remedy may be repair, replacement, or refund at Google’s discretion; exclusions apply, and the page says statutory rights are not reduced. Samsung directs buyers to model pages for specific promotional or extended warranty terms and notes that invoice dates are used to verify warranty timing. Check the support information for the particular phone: Samsung India warranty support. Warranty commencement is worth checking explicitly: in a 22 June 2024 government release about appliance warranties, CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare said consumers should be clearly informed about when the warranty period starts. 3. Treat exchange value as conditional until the terms say otherwise
An exchange quote can depend on the old phone’s exact model, IMEI, location, condition, and inspection. Before counting it toward affordability, check:

- Eligible brands and models, purchase geography, and IMEI requirements.
- Whether the old phone must power on, be unlocked, and have account locks removed.
- Disqualifying damage or missing parts, such as cracks, screen defects, water damage, or non-original parts.
- Requirements to back up data, reset the phone, and hand it over.
- Whether pickup is immediate or deferred, and whether inspection can change the quote.
- How the offer treats a failed inspection or a revised quote you decline, including any exchange bonus.
OPPO’s published exchange terms provide one example, not a universal rule. They include checks for a match between the declared model and IMEI, condition, and locks, and exclude devices purchased outside India. Under its deferred exchange process, the final value is set after physical and functional evaluation. If the device is unacceptable or the buyer rejects the revised price, pickup is cancelled and the exchange value and any bonus are not paid. In that example, the new-phone order is not cancelled when the deferred exchange fails. Check the terms for your specific offer rather than assuming the exchange and phone order are tied together. If you have two or more real offers, compare them using the same phone variant and seller context. Record the terms rather than relying on a single “effective price.”
