Before buying a budget 5G phone in India, check the exact Indian model variant against your operator, confirm coverage at the places you use it, and compare real-world display, camera, battery and performance evidence—not just the spec sheet. Treat software support, warranty and the final price for your exact configuration as part of the value.

1. Confirm the exact Indian variant and operator compatibility

A 5G logo does not tell you every network detail. Check the phone’s model number and Indian SKU on the manufacturer’s site or box, then compare its supported 5G bands with your operator’s guidance. Imported versions of a phone with the same retail name may have different network support.

If you use Jio, its FAQ states that all new 5G smartphones available in Indian markets are compatible with Jio 5G SA. Jio also advises updating the phone software and selecting 5G as the preferred network in device settings. This is Jio’s guidance for new Indian-market devices; do not assume it covers every imported model, software build or other operator. See Jio’s SA compatibility FAQ.

There is no single band checklist here that guarantees service everywhere in India: suitability depends on the exact handset and operator. Nokia’s 2025 India Mobile Broadband Index, discussing its analysis of 2024, reported that N1 (2100 MHz) emerged as the second most popular 5G band. That is historical context, not a guarantee that any particular phone or location will work well. A GSA submission in TRAI materials described n105 in the 600 MHz band as a prospective opportunity dependent on regulatory clarity and operator procurement; it is not a current must-have for a budget phone.

#1 Best Overall

  • Large 6.8-inch HD+ display offers an immersive viewing experience for streaming, gaming, and more.
  • Capture stunning photos and videos with the 48MP triple rear camera system and 13MP front-facing camera.

  • 64GB of internal storage provides ample space for apps, photos, videos, and files (expandable via microSD card).
  • Long-lasting 4,750mAh battery keeps you going all day on a single charge.

2. Check coverage where you actually use the phone

The Ministry of Communications reported on July 24, 2025, that 5G service was available in 99.8% of India’s districts as of June 30, 2025, with 4.86 lakh 5G base transceiver stations installed. District-level availability does not establish reception inside your home, office, college, or on a regular route. The ministry also said further expansion depends on operators’ technical and commercial considerations. Check your operator’s coverage information and, where possible, ask people using that network in the places that matter to you. See the Ministry of Communications’ 2025 update.

3. Compare the screen for readability, not just size

Compare resolution, brightness and refresh rate alongside screen size. A large display may suit video and reading, but a lower resolution can make text less crisp; brightness matters outdoors, while refresh rate affects how smooth scrolling can look. Consider your own preference and, if possible, inspect the exact phone in person.

For example, Samsung’s February 12, 2025, India announcement described the Galaxy F06 5G as having a 6.7-inch HD+ display with 800 nits brightness. Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not an independent test of visibility or display quality. See Samsung’s launch announcement.

4. Judge the camera from samples, not megapixels

Look for independent photos and video from the exact handset, including low-light scenes and moving subjects. Check whether faces, indoor scenes and video look good for the way you use a camera, and whether the front camera suits calls and selfies. Megapixel counts describe image resolution, not overall image quality.

Samsung listed a 50MP main camera and an 8MP front camera for the Galaxy F06 5G. Those figures alone do not establish how well the cameras perform.

5. Evaluate battery life and charging with exact-device tests

Battery capacity and charging wattage are specifications, not runtime or charging-time results. Look for testing of the exact model and configuration, and consider how you use the phone: mobile data, navigation, video and gaming can all affect how often you need to recharge. If charging speed matters, check a measured charge time as well as the rated charging power.

Samsung lists a 5000mAh battery and 25W charging for the Galaxy F06 5G. Those specifications do not establish real-world battery life or charging time.

6. Match performance and storage to your workload

Look for independent tests or hands-on reviews of the exact memory and storage configuration you plan to buy. Consider whether the phone stays responsive with your everyday apps, handles the games you play, and has enough storage for photos, videos and downloads. If expandable storage matters to you, confirm whether the specific variant supports it rather than assuming every model in a series does.

7. Check the update promise for the specific model

Compare the manufacturer’s stated number of operating-system upgrades and security-update period for the exact model. Check when the clock starts—for example, whether the stated period is tied to launch or another date—and whether the promise applies to the Indian variant.

Samsung announced four generations of OS upgrades and four years of security updates for the Galaxy F06 5G in February 2025. That is a model-specific promise from its launch announcement, not a general Samsung policy for every phone. Verify the current terms for any handset you are considering.

8. Verify the full ownership cost before paying

Compare the final price for the exact RAM and storage configuration, then confirm the seller, Indian warranty terms and access to service. A launch price or offer is not evidence of today’s price or stock, and warranty conditions can depend on the seller and variant.

As historical context only, Samsung’s February 2025 announcement listed introductory Galaxy F06 5G prices of INR 9,499 for 4GB+128GB, including a INR 500 bank cashback offer, and INR 10,999 for 6GB+128GB. These are launch-era manufacturer figures, not current prices or an endorsement.
