The UGREEN DXP4800 GT is a four-bay NAS aimed at buyers who can use its two 10GbE ports, flexible SSD options, or ECC memory support. It is a less compelling buy if you mainly need basic file sharing or lack a 10GbE-capable network: the unit is sold without drives, and software limitations—including no volume encryption noted by one reviewer—belong in the decision.

What hardware does the DXP4800 GT offer?

The DXP4800 GT has four SATA drive bays, two M.2 2280 slots, and U.2 support in bays 1 and 2, according to product specifications and reviews. Its M.2 slots use PCIe 3.0 x2 and can be configured for read cache or a separate high-speed pool, as PCWorld describes. It also includes an SD 3.0 reader, HDMI, and USB ports. The reviewed configurations are diskless, so plan to buy storage separately. UGREEN product specifications; PCWorld review

Notebookcheck lists 8GB of DDR4 memory, expandable to 64GB, plus 64GB of eMMC system storage. It lists JBOD, Basic, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10 modes. RAID helps maintain access to data after some drive failures, depending on the chosen configuration; it is not a substitute for a separate backup.

Capacity is a configured maximum, not included storage

Notebookcheck lists a maximum configured capacity of 144TB: four 32TB SATA drives plus two 8TB M.2 SSDs. That is a specification ceiling, not the amount shipped with the NAS, and it does not mean a RAID volume will provide 144TB of usable space. Actual usable capacity depends on the drives and storage layout. Notebookcheck specifications

RAID support adds data redundancy to help reduce the risk of data loss and improve file recovery in the event of drive failure.

Will its dual 10GbE ports make a difference?

The NAS has two 10GbE LAN ports. To benefit from 10GbE, the client computer and the connections between it and the NAS must also support suitable speeds; a switch or faster network adapter may be needed. If the rest of your network is limited to 1GbE or 2.5GbE, the ports alone will not make file transfers run at 10GbE speeds. TechRadar notes that using 10GbE may require upgrades elsewhere in the network. UGREEN product specifications; TechRadar review

TechRadar measured 272.96 MB/s read and 268.35 MB/s write over a 2.5GbE network. Those are results from that review’s test setup, not guaranteed performance for other clients, drives, or network configurations. The same review reports editing a 500GB, two-hour 4K Final Cut Pro X project from the NAS; this is one reviewer’s workflow, not a promise that every editing setup will behave the same way. Can it handle 4K media streaming?

The DXP4800 GT uses an AMD Ryzen Embedded R2514 processor. PCWorld reports that its integrated Vega graphics support H.264 and H.265 hardware transcoding, but the reviewer did not test multiple simultaneous 4K streams. Android Central reports four simultaneous 4K HDR Plex streams in its own test, using Docker to install Plex and Jellyfin. Treat that stream count as a result from one reviewer’s setup—not a guarantee for different codecs, bitrates, clients, or software configurations. PCWorld review; Android Central review

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a media server, check whether your clients can direct-play the files you use or require transcoding, and consider the specific codecs and stream quality involved. A single reported stream count cannot settle performance for every library or household.

How mature is UGOS Pro, and what are its limitations?

PCWorld describes UGOS Pro as smooth for common NAS tasks and offering a broad range of apps, while identifying the lack of volume encryption as a notable shortcoming. NAS Compares characterizes the software as less mature than established alternatives for advanced users and says the 64GB eMMC system storage makes third-party operating-system installation less straightforward. These are review assessments, not a complete audit of every feature or firmware release. PCWorld review; NAS Compares review

If volume encryption is a requirement for your data-protection policy, verify current software support before buying rather than assuming the feature is available. Advanced users planning to install another operating system should also account for the eMMC-based system setup.

What will you need to buy separately?

The NAS is sold without drives in the reviewed configurations. You will need to budget for four SATA drives if you intend to populate every bay; M.2 SSDs are optional and can serve as cache or a separate pool. TechRadar’s review used four 4TB Seagate IronWolf drives and reported that each cost approximately $150 at the time of its review. That is historical price context, not a current quote. Notebookcheck used four WD Red Plus drives in a RAID 5 test. TechRadar review; Notebookcheck review

ECC memory is supported but is an optional upgrade, not part of the stated 8GB base memory. If ECC is important to your workload, confirm the exact compatible module and include it in the configured cost. NAS Compares review

Free up phones and computers, stop relying on scattered external drives, and say goodbye to “storage full” stress. Drives not included. Purchase HDDs/SSDs from a third party.

A 10GbE setup may also require compatible networking on the client side and a suitable switch or adapter. TechRadar names a 10GbE switch and USB4-to-10GbE adapter as additional setup costs, but its quoted prices are dated; check current regional pricing and compatibility before purchasing. TechRadar review

Who should buy the DXP4800 GT?

It makes sense for

  • Home-lab users or small teams who can make practical use of dual 10GbE.
  • Creators who want four SATA bays alongside M.2 storage options and U.2 support in bays 1 and 2.
  • Buyers who want ECC memory support or the option to expand memory up to the 64GB maximum listed by Notebookcheck.
  • Media-server users whose codec, client, and software requirements match the capabilities they have confirmed.

Consider another approach if

  • You only need basic file sharing and would not benefit from the faster networking or extra SSD options.
  • You do not have—and do not plan to add—the client-side networking and other infrastructure needed to use 10GbE.
  • Volume encryption is essential and current UGOS Pro support does not meet your requirements.
  • You need an especially mature platform for advanced software use or expect a straightforward third-party OS installation.

When comparing four-bay NAS systems, compare the complete configured cost and the features your workload actually needs: network speed, drive and SSD options, memory and ECC support, media capabilities, and software features such as volume encryption. The DXP4800 GT’s strongest case is its combination of dual 10GbE and flexible internal storage—not simply that it has four bays.
