At GISEC Global 2026, Thales reportedly presented data-security capabilities spanning discovery, visibility, protection and control, alongside a next-generation quantum-ready hardware security module (HSM). The event account also framed artificial intelligence as both a defensive tool and a way to enable more sophisticated attacks. These are descriptions from secondary coverage, not independent product testing or confirmed specifications.

What did Thales showcase at GISEC Global 2026?

MSSP Alert, citing TahawulTech, reported that Thales showcased integrated data-security capabilities and a quantum-ready HSM at GISEC Global 2026. The account describes a lifecycle-oriented approach: finding sensitive data, gaining visibility into it, protecting it, and controlling access. It does not name the HSM model or provide specifications, compatibility details, independent benchmarks, pricing, or a procurement route. Read the event report.

Thales’ March 2026 investor presentation lists capabilities including data discovery and classification, encryption, tokenization, key and secrets management, and HSMs. That portfolio context is distinct from evidence that any particular product was tested at the event or meets a particular post-quantum standard. How does AI change cybersecurity?

In the event report’s summary of remarks by Sébastien Pavie, Thales vice president of sales for SEMEA, AI is dual-use: it can help organizations improve defense, while also enabling more sophisticated attacks. This is a paraphrase attributed to Pavie through MSSP Alert’s reporting, not a verified direct quotation.

For security teams, the practical implication is to assess AI as part of both sides of the threat model: where it may strengthen detection and response, and how attackers could use it to increase the sophistication of threats. The event coverage does not specify a particular AI product, capability, or measured security outcome from Thales.

What is quantum-safe security, and why plan now?

Quantum-safe security refers to preparing systems and communications to remain protected as quantum computing advances. The concern is that digital communications protected by public-key cryptography in use today may be affected by future quantum capabilities. ITU calls for coordinated preparation for quantum-safe communications, making migration a planning challenge rather than a matter of buying one device. ITU’s quantum-safe communications overview.

One risk is “harvest now, decrypt later” (HNDL): an attacker collects encrypted data today in the hope of decrypting it in the future. In the 2026 Thales Data Threat Report, 61% of respondents selected future decryption of existing data as their top-cited quantum risk, and 59% said organizations were prototyping or evaluating post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) algorithms. The survey population consisted of 2,140 organizations surveying, exploring, or experimenting with quantum computing; these figures describe that surveyed group, not all organizations. 2026 Thales Data Threat Report.

How can an organization prepare for post-quantum cryptography?

Preparation is a coordinated inventory and migration effort. An HSM may be relevant to cryptographic operations, but the event report does not establish that the showcased device alone addresses an organization’s transition needs. ITU’s call for coordinated preparation supports treating this as a cross-system program.

  1. Discover and classify sensitive data. Identify what information needs protection and where it resides. This aligns with the data discovery and classification capabilities in Thales’ published portfolio, but organizations should evaluate coverage in their own environments.
  2. Inventory cryptography and dependencies. Map where public-key cryptography is used, which systems depend on it, and who owns each component. This creates the basis for prioritizing changes and coordinating across teams.
  3. Assess exposure over time. Prioritize data that must remain confidential for a long period, since information captured now could be targeted for future decryption.
  4. Coordinate migration and evaluation. Establish ownership and a plan for evaluating PQC algorithms across affected systems. The reported survey shows that some organizations in its defined population were prototyping or evaluating PQC; it does not establish a universal readiness level.
  5. Review key, secrets, and HSM requirements in context. Determine how existing encryption and key-management processes would fit into the transition. Require specific compatibility and standards evidence from vendors rather than treating “quantum-ready” as a complete specification.
  6. Include AI-related risks in security planning. Consider both potential defensive uses of AI and its use in more sophisticated attacks, while keeping decisions grounded in the organization’s threat model.
