Snagit 2022 added a cloud-backed Snagit Library and improved webcam picture-in-picture (PiP), but cloud access depends on the sync app keeping library files available locally. The Windows and Mac release notes also differ on when iCloud support and new webcam shapes arrived. TechSmith dates Snagit 2022.0.0 to December 7, 2021.
What changed in Snagit 2022’s Cloud Library?
TechSmith described the Cloud Library as a way to save the entire Snagit Library to a cloud destination for access between computers and automatic backup. In its Windows 2022.0.0 release notes, TechSmith listed Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud, and Box.
The Mac rollout differed. The Mac 2022 version history initially named Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Box; iCloud was added as a library autosave location in Mac version 2022.1.0. These lists describe the named release notes, not a guarantee that every service or setup behaves identically across operating systems.
How to configure cloud sync between computers
Snagit’s Cloud Library relies on the cloud provider’s desktop sync application. TechSmith’s Cloud Library: Streaming vs. Local guidance, updated July 12, 2025, says the supported service app must be installed locally and actively syncing. Files also need to be available on the computer, rather than existing only as online placeholders.

- Install the desktop sync app for a cloud service supported by your Snagit version and platform, then sign in.
- Set the provider to keep the Snagit Library folder available locally. For example, TechSmith points to mirroring Google Drive files and downloading OneDrive files locally.
- In Snagit, set the Library location to the folder inside the synced cloud location, following the app’s cloud library setup for your platform.
- Repeat the compatible sync setup on each computer that needs the library. Allow the provider to finish syncing before expecting captures to appear elsewhere.
If captures are missing or slow to appear, check the sync client’s status and whether the files are stored locally before treating it as a Snagit file-format issue.
What improved in webcam picture-in-picture?
The Windows 2022 release history says Snagit improved video stability, audio/video synchronization, and webcam compatibility. TechSmith does not provide benchmark methods or numerical results for these claims, so they describe the release’s stated improvements rather than a quantified performance guarantee.
Custom webcam shapes arrived in later updates, not as a uniform launch feature. Windows version 2022.1.1, dated August 9, 2022, added circular, rectangular, rounded-rectangle, square, and rounded-square PiP shapes, alongside OBS Virtual Webcam support. Mac release notes also document added PiP shapes, but the Mac and Windows update timing and numbering differ; see the platform-specific Windows and Mac histories.
A webcam is optional if you do not need a camera inset in a recording. For someone choosing hardware, TechSmith’s Windows camera and virtual-camera compatibility list, updated July 15, 2025, includes the Logitech C920 as tested with Snagit 2022. That is a compatibility example, not a requirement or product ranking.

How .snagx relates to cloud storage
Snagit 2022 introduced the .snagx format as a cross-platform replacement for the older Windows .snag and Mac .snagproj formats, according to TechSmith’s Windows release history. This concerns opening and using Snagit files across platforms; it does not itself sync a library. Cloud access still depends on a supported provider’s desktop sync application and local file availability.
What this means for Snagit users today
Snagit 2022’s release notes are a historical record of what shipped, not a statement of current purchasing terms or the latest version. TechSmith’s update and access guidance, updated June 11, 2026, says access to the current version requires an active subscription that includes Snagit and describes purchasing the latest version when a subscription is inactive. Confirm the current terms with TechSmith before making a purchase decision.
