At XRP Seoul 2026, Ripple President Monica Long’s institutional-growth thesis was described as a shift beyond payments: financial institutions may use the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for tokenized assets, collateral mobility and stablecoin-supported payments. That is a strategy and a set of expectations—not proof that institutions have broadly adopted XRPL. The event account is a secondary report, while Ripple’s product figures and customer examples are company claims.

What was the institutional-growth thesis?

U.Today’s October 3, 2026 account of XRP Seoul 2026 described a fireside chat titled “Institutional Adoption & Capital Mobility on the XRP Ledger.” It characterized the discussion as being about financial institutions moving on-chain and using XRPL for collateral mobility, tokenized assets and payment infrastructure. The report also said speakers pointed to regulatory clarity as a factor that could move institutions from experiments toward deployment.

In that account, the use cases extended to tokenized money-market funds, treasury-backed repos and stablecoin-enabled cross-border payments. These are event takeaways reported by U.Today, not independently confirmed deployments. The primary event recording or transcript was not available in the reviewed sources, so the predictions should be read as attributed commentary rather than established outcomes.

The same report relayed projections that real-world-asset (RWA) value could grow from $6 billion to $30 billion and AI-agent transactions from 10 million to 100 million, alongside an aspiration for growth over one year. It did not establish the underlying methodology or primary data source for those figures. They are projections in event reporting, not observed XRPL results.

Ripple, XRP and XRPL are not interchangeable

Ripple is a B2B technology company. XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger, an open-source, decentralized blockchain to which Ripple contributes. Ripple’s products may use digital assets or blockchain infrastructure, but a Ripple business announcement is not automatically evidence of XRP usage or network-wide adoption.

Ripple describes the XRP Ledger as a public layer-1 blockchain for creating, transferring and exchanging digital assets. Its product materials describe support for tokenization, trading, escrow and payments. Ripple’s broader institutional strategy also includes services beyond the ledger itself: its FAQ describes Ripple Payments as a B2B cross-border payments solution and Ripple Custody as a digital-asset custody platform for banks and crypto companies. Those are issuer descriptions of its own offerings.

What Ripple says XRPL can offer institutions

Ripple advertises XRPL settlement in 3–5 seconds at fractions of a cent. It also reports “$3.3 billion+” transactions processed and “$1 trillion+” in value moved between counterparties. These figures appear on Ripple’s tokenization product page; the reviewed page does not specify their measurement dates or methodology, and they are not independent audits. Ripple also characterizes the ledger’s energy use as little to none, which is likewise a company product claim.

For market context, Ripple’s tokenization page cites a Ripple-and-Boston Consulting Group (BCG) forecast that tokenized assets will reach $19 trillion by 2033. This is a forecast about a future market, not a measurement of assets currently issued or settled on XRPL.

Examples Ripple cites in Brazil

In a March 17, 2026 announcement, Ripple said it was expanding its Brazil offering across payments, digital-asset custody, prime brokerage and treasury management. It named Banco Genial, Braza Bank, Nomad and Azify among regional customers or users, and said it planned to apply for a Virtual Asset Service Provider license with Brazil’s Central Bank. The license application was described as planned, not completed.

Braza Bank’s BBRL

Ripple said Braza Bank selected Ripple Payments and issued BBRL, a Brazilian real-pegged stablecoin, on XRPL. This is a Ripple-reported customer and issuance example; the announcement does not establish how much BBRL is in circulation or how extensively it is being used.

Justoken and custody

Ripple said Justoken would use Ripple Custody for infrastructure related to natural-resources tokenization. That wording describes a planned use, not evidence in the announcement of completed tokenization or operating volumes.

The same Brazil announcement reported that Ripple Payments had processed more than $100 billion in volume globally and covered 60+ markets. These are Ripple-reported product figures, not independently audited measurements in the cited material.

Stablecoins and the wider institutional stack

Ripple’s FAQ describes RLUSD as a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin supported one-to-one by cash deposits, U.S. Treasuries and cash equivalents, and says it has approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) and the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). These are statements from the issuer’s FAQ, not an independent assessment of reserves or regulatory status.

An XRPL Commons article published May 13, 2026 reported that DBS and Franklin Templeton were transacting with tokenized funds on XRPL using RLUSD. XRPL Commons also reported that RLUSD passed $1 billion in market capitalization within its first year. Those are ecosystem-source claims; market capitalization is time-sensitive and the figure should not be treated as a current value without checking live market data.

XRPL Commons’ 2026 Paris event recap quoted Ripple SVP Eric Van Miltenburg describing the company’s strategy: “Ripple started as a cross-border payments company and is now building a full institutional infrastructure stack—custody, prime brokerage, stablecoin payments, and treasury.” This is a useful description of Ripple’s stated direction, not an independent ranking of its competitive position.

What would show that the growth phase is actually happening?

Announcements and forecasts establish interest and intent; they do not by themselves establish sustained production adoption. For a clearer assessment, readers should distinguish announced partnerships from live services, and pilots from recurring institutional activity. Useful evidence would include disclosed transaction or issuance volumes, named production deployments, redemption and liquidity details, and information on regulatory permissions in the relevant jurisdictions.

A fair comparison between XRPL and other institutional networks or providers would also need consistent evidence about custody and key management, token controls and compliance, settlement cost and speed, liquidity, interoperability, and integration requirements. The event thesis identifies possible demand areas; it does not establish that XRPL is categorically superior or that the predicted growth will occur.
