The 60-hour play requirement applies to a specific Sony Store Japan application for the PS5 Pro—not to PS5 Pro purchases worldwide. For this application, a Japan-registered Sony account must show at least 60 cumulative hours of PS5 and/or PS4 game time during a fixed period that ended on September 27, 2026. Playing more now cannot make up a shortfall, and meeting the requirement does not guarantee a chance to buy: Sony may hold a lottery if applications exceed planned stock.
What the 60-hour requirement means
Sony Store Japan requires applicants to have accumulated at least 60 hours of game time on PS5, PS4, or a combination of the two. The hours must be recorded on the same Sony account used to apply. Sony’s official application terms set the qualifying window as September 27, 2024 through September 27, 2026 at 23:59.

- PS4 time counts: You do not need 60 hours on PS5 alone, nor 60 hours on each console.
- The total is cumulative: The requirement is 60 hours across PS5 and/or PS4 on the applying account.
- The window is closed: Hours played after September 27, 2026 do not count toward this application.
Who can apply through Sony Store Japan
The application is for Japan’s Sony Store offer for PS5 Pro model CFI-7100B01. Applicants must reside in Japan and use PlayStation Online Services with a Sony account registered in Japan. The account’s sign-in ID must also be unified with a My Sony ID. The same Sony account must be used to apply and, if selected, complete the purchase.
These are the terms of this Japan-specific application, not a universal PS5 Pro purchase rule. Sony’s terms do not establish that other markets or retailers require 60 hours; check the relevant seller’s own conditions rather than assuming this rule applies elsewhere.

Application and purchase dates
| Stage | Date or cutoff | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifying playtime period | September 27, 2024–September 27, 2026 at 23:59 | Closed; later playtime cannot qualify for this application. |
| Application cutoff | October 7, 2026 at 23:59 | Applications to the Sony Store Japan offer close. |
| Selection notices | Expected to begin around October 26, 2026 | Sony says it will notify applicants; a lottery is used if applications exceed planned units. |
| Purchase cutoff for selected applicants | November 2, 2026 at 11:59 | Selected applicants must complete online checkout through Sony Store by this time. |
| Delivery | Japan only; timing varies | The offer does not provide delivery outside Japan. |
Sony says it plans an additional draw beginning in November for units that selected applicants do not purchase, from eligible applicants who were unsuccessful in the first selection. The exact outcome for any applicant depends on Sony’s selection process and available units.
Does 60 hours guarantee you can buy a PS5 Pro?
No. The 60 hours and account conditions make an applicant eligible to apply; they do not guarantee selection. Sony states that it will choose applicants by lottery if qualifying applications exceed planned stock. The application is limited to one unit per Sony account, and a winning purchase right cannot be transferred.
Selected applicants also need to complete checkout by November 2, 2026 at 11:59. Eligibility alone does not reserve a console or extend that purchase deadline.

Sony describes PS5 Pro as an all-digital console; its US PlayStation Direct product page says the Disc Drive is sold separately. That affects what a disc-owning buyer may need to purchase, but it has no bearing on the Japan application eligibility. See PlayStation Direct’s US product page for that market’s product description.

Sony’s current application terms specify the eligibility rules and buying process but do not explain why the 60-hour threshold was chosen. Tom’s Hardware characterized it as an anti-scalping measure, but that is the outlet’s interpretation, not a stated Sony rationale. The terms do not establish that the requirement will prevent scalping, change supply, or affect resale prices.
For context only, Sony’s September 2024 announcement said PS5 Pro had 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the PS5 model current at that announcement, and claimed up to 45% faster rendering. Sony also promoted advanced ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). These are Sony’s reported specifications and claims, not independent benchmark results; Sony says enhanced features are available only in selected games and vary by game. See Sony’s September 2024 announcement and Sony’s PS5 Pro page.
Choosing a purchase route
If you are considering the Japan Sony Store offer, use its official conditions and dates: the application cutoff is October 7, and the qualifying playtime period has already ended. If you are buying through a retailer or in another market, the Japan terms do not establish that seller’s eligibility rules, stock, price or deadlines. Confirm those details directly with the seller; the available sources do not verify live availability elsewhere.
