You do not need a PC that renders 1,000 frames per second just to show an image on a 1,000Hz monitor. You do need a graphics card, connection, operating system, and drivers that support the monitor’s maximum-refresh mode. To feed a game a new frame on every refresh, however, the whole system—including the CPU, GPU, memory, game, and settings—must sustain an exceptionally high frame rate. No universal CPU or RAM configuration is established for doing that across games.
What PC hardware do you need to run a 1,000Hz monitor?
The exact requirements depend on the monitor and on what you mean by “run.” A display may be set to its maximum refresh mode while a game renders fewer than 1,000 frames per second. In that case, it still refreshes at the selected rate, but the PC is not supplying a new, unique game frame for every refresh.
For LG’s 25G590B, LG says using up to 1,000Hz requires Windows 11, a DisplayPort 2.1 connection, and an NVIDIA RTX 50-series or AMD Radeon RX 9070, 9060, or 7900-series GPU, or newer. Those are requirements for this LG model, not a general standard for all 1,000Hz monitors. LG also notes that actual results depend on the CPU, GPU, memory, game-specific frame-rate limits, Windows version, and graphics-driver version. LG’s U.S. product announcement gives the model-specific details.
To display an image at the monitor’s maximum refresh mode
- A compatible graphics output and connection: Check that the GPU and the monitor support the required input and refresh mode. LG specifies DisplayPort 2.1 for the 25G590B; that does not establish the same requirement for other models.
- A supported GPU: Match the GPU to the monitor maker’s stated compatibility list. For the LG model, that list names recent NVIDIA and AMD GPU families.
- A compatible operating system and driver: LG specifies Windows 11 for its 25G590B’s maximum refresh mode and warns that OS and driver versions can affect performance.
- The correct display mode: Maximum refresh can depend on the resolution and mode selected. Confirm the monitor is actually set to the intended resolution and refresh rate.
To make a game deliver close to 1,000 frames per second
That is a separate and much harder goal. The GPU renders frames, while the CPU, memory, game engine, settings, and software can all limit how quickly those frames are produced. A game can also impose its own frame-rate cap. The cited manufacturer specifications do not identify a universal processor or memory recipe that sustains 1,000 FPS, and they do not provide a common independent benchmark for comparing game performance.

Check the resolution and mode behind the 1,000Hz figure
The headline refresh rate alone does not tell you what resolution the monitor maintains at that rate. Manufacturer specifications show that some displays trade resolution for refresh, while others advertise 1,000Hz at their stated Full HD resolution.
| Monitor | Maximum-refresh mode described by the manufacturer | Connection and availability notes |
|---|---|---|
| LG UltraGear 25G590B | Native 1,000Hz at 1920×1080 (Full HD); up to 1,100Hz overclocked, according to LG. LG says the 1,000Hz mode is achieved at Full HD rather than by switching to a lower resolution. | LG specifies DisplayPort 2.1 and Windows 11 for up to 1,000Hz, alongside the listed recent NVIDIA and AMD GPU families. LG announced a U.S. price of $999.99 in 2026; that is an announcement price, not a guarantee of current retail pricing. |
| Acer Predator XB273U F6 | 500Hz at 2560×1440; 1,000Hz at 1280×720 using Dynamic Frequency and Resolution (DFR) mode. | Acer lists two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. Acer’s product specifications describe the modes and inputs. |
| AGON by AOC AGP257FT | AOC announced native 1,000Hz at Full HD, overclockable to 1,050Hz. | AOC announced DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 inputs and expected availability from Q1 2027. This is a future product announcement; check regional stock, final specifications, and price before buying. AOC’s product page contains its announcement details. |
These figures are manufacturer specifications or announcements, not independent comparative test results. They show why it is important to compare resolution at the maximum refresh rate, whether the mode is native or DFR, and the input and GPU output required. LG also says its 1,100Hz overclocked mode may limit Adaptive-Sync support, so check that trade-off if variable refresh matters to you. LG’s CES 2026 announcement describes its native Full HD claim and the overclocked mode.

Will your PC run a 1,000Hz monitor?
Use this checklist for the particular monitor you plan to use. A “yes” for display compatibility does not guarantee a game will render 1,000 FPS.

- Find the monitor’s exact maximum-refresh mode. Record its resolution, refresh rate, and whether reaching 1,000Hz requires a dual-mode or DFR setting.
- Check the required input and GPU output. Confirm the GPU can connect to the specified monitor input at the intended mode. For the LG 25G590B, LG specifies DisplayPort 2.1 and a GPU from its named families.
- Check the operating system and graphics driver. LG specifies Windows 11 for its 25G590B’s maximum mode; verify the monitor maker’s current requirements for other models.
- Select and verify the mode in your display settings. Confirm both the target resolution and refresh rate are active rather than assuming a connected monitor is running at its advertised maximum.
- Check the target game’s frame-rate behavior. Look for an in-game or driver-imposed cap and consider whether the game’s engine and your settings allow very high frame rates.
- Measure your own game performance before upgrading. Compare frame rates in the games and settings you actually use. The cited manufacturer sources do not establish a CPU or memory upgrade that guarantees 1,000 FPS.
What a 1,000Hz rating does—and does not—promise
A 1,000Hz rating describes the display’s maximum refresh capability in a supported mode; it is not a promise that every game will render 1,000 frames each second. If the PC delivers fewer frames, the monitor can still refresh at the selected rate, but not every refresh will contain a newly rendered game frame. The practical result depends on the monitor mode, PC, game, and settings. A headline refresh figure alone therefore does not establish a visible or competitive advantage for a particular player.

LG’s global announcement reports the quotation and the company’s claim.
