Thousands-dollar G-SHOCKs are usually from Casio’s MR-G collection, its flagship line. Their prices reflect the particular watch’s materials, finishing, construction, and features; limited editions can add scarcity. None of those factors guarantees that a watch will keep its retail value or rise in price. To judge resale, look for confirmed sales of the exact reference in comparable condition and market.
Why some G-SHOCKs cost thousands
Casio describes MR-G as its flagship G-SHOCK collection. Selected MR-G models combine premium materials and detailed finishing with features such as Tough Solar, Bluetooth connectivity, and Multiband 6 timekeeping. Casio says its MR-G watches are produced at the Premium Line at the Yamagata Factory. Materials and construction
Casio identifies grade-5 titanium, COBARION, DAT55G, and sapphire crystal among the materials used in selected MR-Gs. For example, Casio says the MRG-B5000 series uses COBARION for its bezel and DAT55G for band components. The company describes COBARION as having hardness about four times that of pure titanium, and DAT55G as about three times that of pure titanium while remaining comparatively light. Finishing and design
Some MR-Gs add specialized work that is more distinctive than a material upgrade alone. Casio describes the MRG-B2000KT as having an individually hand-engraved phoenix bezel, while the MRG-B2000JS uses a recrystallized hybrid-titanium bezel inspired by Japanese sword temper patterns. What a limited edition does—and does not—tell you
Edition size can establish a specific scarcity claim, but it does not establish how many watches are available in a particular country, how many have sold, or what future buyers will pay.

MRG-D5000: 20 pieces worldwide
In an announcement dated October 1, 2026, Casio said the MRG-D5000 would be limited to 20 pieces worldwide. Its bezel is rendered entirely in blue sapphire crystal; Casio says the multi-component shock-resistant construction is designed to protect the sapphire parts. Casio states that selected MR-G anniversary and craft models, including the MRG-B2000KT, MRG-B2000JS, and MRG-B2100HR, are limited to 800 pieces worldwide. Does an expensive G-SHOCK hold its value?
There is no reliable market-wide resale-retention percentage established here, and launch demand is not the same as resale performance. Casio’s FY2026 first-half results briefing said the MRG-B5000HT was well received and that the limited number available sold out quickly despite its ¥935,000 price range. Market aggregator entries can be useful leads, but a listing marked “Sold / Removed” does not by itself confirm that a transaction took place. A listing may disappear for other reasons, and asking prices, seller location, condition, and listing duration can differ. Avoid treating a handful of such entries as an index or a valuation. How to assess a specific MR-G’s resale value
Compare evidence for the exact reference rather than relying on broad claims that G-SHOCKs “hold value.” Use recent, confirmed completed sales where possible, and keep the comparison consistent:

- Reference and original market: Match the model number and account for the country and currency in which it was originally sold.
- Materials and finish: Check what is actually present on that reference, rather than attributing another MR-G’s materials or craft details to it.
- Functions: Compare the movement and features that matter to the buyer; specifications differ among models.
- Edition details: Verify the stated global edition size and whether the individual watch is numbered.
- Condition and completeness: Compare wear, box, papers, and service history.
- Sale evidence: Prefer confirmed transactions for matching references in the same market. Separate confirmed sales from auction results, asking prices, and listings merely marked removed.
If you cite or calculate a resale figure, state the reference, date range, currency, condition, market, and type of evidence. Without those details, the number can imply a level of certainty the available listings do not support.
