Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s gaming subscription service: you pay for access to a changing library of games rather than buying every catalog game outright. You can play included titles while your subscription is active and the games remain in the catalog; access ends if your subscription lapses or a title leaves. Which devices and features you get depends on your plan and region.
How Xbox Game Pass works
After subscribing, you can access games included with your plan on its supported platforms. The library changes over time, and a title’s availability can differ by region, plan, or platform. Xbox does not describe catalog access as permanent ownership. If you want to keep playing a game regardless of its catalog status, you would need to buy it separately.
Game Pass may also include features beyond the catalog, such as cloud gaming, online console multiplayer, day-one releases, rewards, or bundled services. These are not available on every plan. Xbox notes that titles, counts, features, and availability can change; check the Xbox Game Pass page for current details in your region.

| Plan | Catalog and access | Notable features |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | 50+ games | Online console multiplayer and in-game benefits; no new releases on day one. Cloud playtime is listed as 5 hours per month, subject to limits and device and region support. |
| Premium | 200+ games | Streaming; Xbox-published releases join within one year. Cloud playtime is listed as 10 hours per month, subject to limits and device and region support. |
| PC Game Pass | 300+ games; PC-focused | Day-one releases and EA Play. |
| Ultimate | 500+ games across console, PC, and supported devices | Day-one releases, cloud gaming, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Cloud playtime is listed as 15 hours per month, subject to limits and device and region support. |
These details describe the US plans on Xbox’s plan comparison page. They are not a guarantee that every listed title or feature is available on every device or in every location.
How to decide which plan fits
- Start with your device. Choose a plan that supports the console, PC, or other device you actually use.
- Consider day-one releases. If access to new releases on day one matters, compare the tiers that include it; Essential excludes that benefit.
- Check the games you want. Catalog size alone does not show whether the titles you care about are currently included.
- Review cloud play limits. Cloud gaming is plan- and support-dependent; the US product page lists different monthly playtime limits for Essential, Premium, and Ultimate.
- Account for multiplayer and extras. Check whether online console multiplayer, rewards, or bundled services are included in the plan you are considering.
- Confirm local price and renewal terms. Prices and availability vary by region, and recurring billing is enabled by default unless you turn it off.
Subscription access, purchases, and billing
A Game Pass subscription grants temporary access under the subscription’s terms; it is different from purchasing an individual game. If a game leaves the catalog or your subscription ends, the subscription no longer provides access to it. Availability of a code or gift-card redemption route does not establish current stock or availability from any particular retailer.

Xbox says recurring billing automatically charges for another subscription period unless it is turned off through your Microsoft account or console. To stop future automatic charges, use the recurring-billing controls in your account or console and confirm the setting has changed. Cancellation and any refund are subject to Microsoft’s account terms.
