Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is an upcoming real-time strategy game set on the planet Kronus. Developed by KING Art Games and published by Deep Silver, it features four announced factions—Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and Adeptus Mechanicus—and a separate campaign for each that contributes to one shared story. It is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam on December 3, 2026. The game has not yet been released, so its features and mission count are announced plans rather than reviewed results.
What kind of game is Dawn of War IV?
Deep Silver describes Dawn of War IV as a real-time strategy (RTS) game in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It is the fourth mainline entry in the Dawn of War series. The official pitch emphasizes a return to large-scale battles and base building, alongside an expanded Sync Kill system—cinematic close-combat finishers that are part of the series’ presentation. These are announced design goals, not a hands-on assessment of how the finished game plays. Warhammer Community’s announcement and the Deep Silver game page outline the premise and official feature descriptions.
Which factions are in Dawn of War IV?
Four core factions have been announced. Each is described as mechanically distinct and has its own campaign. Space Marine chapters appearing in the story are not additional core factions: Blood Ravens and Dark Angels are both Space Marines.
| Faction | What is announced |
|---|---|
| Space Marines | The campaign features the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels in different missions. Blood Ravens characters include Captain Cyrus and Chief Librarian Jonah Orion. |
| Orks | Two rival Warbosses compete to lead a Waaagh. An official Ork gameplay reveal is available from Warhammer Community. |
| Necrons | Necron forces emerge from an invasion fleet and tombs beneath Kronus. |
| Adeptus Mechanicus | The faction seeks lost knowledge and artifacts. It is making its debut in the Dawn of War series. |
The faction lineup was announced by Warhammer Community and reconfirmed in its September 30, 2026 launch-date update.

What is the story about?
The conflict returns to Kronus, a planet previously featured in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. The Blood Ravens return under Captain Cyrus and Chief Librarian Jonah Orion, while players will also command Dark Angels in other campaign missions. The Adeptus Mechanicus searches for lost knowledge, rival Ork Warbosses vie to lead a Waaagh, and Necron forces awaken from their tombs as an invasion fleet arrives.
Each faction has a campaign that feeds into an overarching narrative. Black Library author John French co-wrote the campaign. This is the announced setup; the full plot and ending have not been disclosed in the cited official material. The story trailer article gives further details about the characters and premise.

What gameplay and modes are announced?
Deep Silver’s feature pitch pairs base building with large-scale battles and an expanded Sync Kill system. Steam advertises more than 70 campaign missions, a pre-release store claim that has not been independently counted through play. The game is also listed with solo play, online co-op, and online PvP. Deep Silver names competitive multiplayer, Last Stand, Skirmish, and additional modes, and says many modes support co-op as well as solo play.
For a practical comparison with another RTS, the useful questions are whether its base-building focus suits you, how distinct the four campaigns feel, how substantial the campaign is, and whether the available co-op and PvP modes match how you play. Those judgments will require the released game; no comparative performance testing or full hands-on reviews are established here. See the Steam listing for its advertised mission count and modes.

When does Dawn of War IV release, and on what platform?
The current official release date is December 3, 2026, for PC (Windows) via Steam. Deep Silver lists a November 30 start for Commander Edition’s three-day early access. Steam and a September 30, 2026 Warhammer Community update also give December 3 as the release date. Older official pages that say only “2026,” and an earlier September date, have been superseded by these later listings.
Store language listings differ. Deep Silver lists English full audio and interface/subtitles in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Polish, Korean, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Steam lists 13 interface/subtitle languages, including Turkish, and English full audio. For the most precise current language information, check the live Steam language table.
