The Object Management Architecture (OMA) is the Object Management Group’s framework for organizing standard objects and interfaces in distributed, object-oriented software. Its communication core is the Object Request Broker (ORB), while common services, reusable facilities, and application-specific objects fit around it.
What does OMA define?
OMA is an architectural framework, not a single software product. The Object Management Group (OMG) describes it as its vision for a component-software environment: standardized interfaces are intended to let software components work together across distributed systems and differing platforms and implementation techniques. The OMG OMA resource page says the architecture “embodies the OMG’s vision for the component software environment.”
The framework groups the main parts of that environment into four categories. They describe distinct responsibilities, not four products that must be installed together.
The four categories in OMA
| Category | Role in the architecture |
|---|---|
| Object Request Broker (ORB) | Communication infrastructure that lets objects make and receive requests and responses across a distributed environment. It is the central mechanism for interaction across heterogeneous systems. |
| CORBAservices | Common services for tasks such as managing object life cycles, controlling access, tracking relocated objects, and maintaining relationships among groups of objects. |
| CORBAfacilities | Reusable capabilities shared across applications, including horizontal facilities and facilities common to particular domains. |
| Application objects | Objects and interfaces that implement a particular application’s domain-specific behavior. They communicate through the ORB, either statically or dynamically. |
These category names and descriptions follow the OMG terminology page and its OMA overview. The ORB carries requests between objects; services and facilities provide capabilities that applications can reuse; application objects supply the behavior specific to the software being built.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How OMA relates to CORBA
OMA is the organizing architecture. CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) specifies the reference-model ORB and related interfaces and interoperability mechanisms. In other words, OMA describes how the component environment is organized; CORBA supplies specifications for important parts of that environment.
The OMG’s CORBA 3.4 specification page lists normative documents covering interoperability, interfaces, and components. OMG’s version history records CORBA 3.4 as formally adopted in February 2021. That is a dated adoption fact, not a claim that 3.4 is the newest version currently available.

Why the architecture mattered
OMA addressed a basic challenge in distributed software: components written for different platforms or using different implementation techniques need agreed ways to expose interfaces and communicate. Standard interfaces and an ORB were intended to support portability and interoperability, making components easier to combine.
Those are architectural goals, not a guarantee of automatic compatibility. Implementations and deployments still need to conform to the relevant specifications and work through practical integration requirements. OMA is a framework for standards and component organization, not a promise that any two independently built systems will plug together without effort.

OMA and the broader OMG standards history
The OMG’s account describes OMA as part of a standards landscape that expanded as modeling standards and middleware proliferated. The organization’s broader Model Driven Architecture (MDA) vision did not make OMA and MDA synonyms, nor did it eliminate OMA’s role: OMG says it continues to develop CORBA and related-services specifications within its standards work.
