There is no single universal Fire Stick IR code. To control a TV’s power or volume with an Alexa Voice Remote, use Fire TV’s Find IR Profile option to look for a profile that matches the television. If that does not work, search using the TV’s make and model. HDMI-CEC is a separate option for compatible devices; it sends control over HDMI rather than using the remote’s IR profile.
What “Fire Stick IR code” means
People searching for a Fire Stick IR code usually want the remote to control their TV’s power or volume. On supported setups, the remote uses an infrared (IR) profile selected for the television or other equipment; it is not one numeric code that works for every TV. Amazon staff describe the profile as enabling functions such as turning the TV on or off and adjusting its volume. Amazon’s explanation of IR profiles dates to July 12, 2023.
This is different from pairing the remote with the Fire TV Stick. Pairing lets the remote navigate the Fire TV interface; equipment control configures functions on the connected TV. If the remote cannot navigate Fire TV, troubleshoot pairing. If navigation works but TV power or volume does not, check the equipment-control profile.

How to find the right Fire TV IR profile
- Open the TV’s equipment settings. On Fire TV, go to Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > TV > Infrared Options > Change IR Profile.
- Run the built-in search. Choose Find IR Profile and follow the prompts to test whether the selected profile controls the TV.
- Search by make and model if needed. If the Fire TV does not find a suitable profile, look for one using the TV’s make and model rather than trying an arbitrary code for the same brand. Amazon gives this as a fallback in its IR profile guidance.
Menu wording can vary by Fire TV model or software version. If the listed path does not match your screen, look for the closest Equipment Control settings. Amazon’s equipment-control help covers manual setup for supported third-party devices.

IR profile or HDMI-CEC?
Both methods can help a Fire TV setup control connected equipment, but they work differently. An IR profile uses the remote’s infrared signal; HDMI-CEC sends commands between compatible devices over the HDMI connection. Amazon describes the Fire TV CEC setting in its Fire TV Stick guide.
| Control method | How it works | What to check | Fire TV setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| IR profile | The remote sends infrared commands for supported TV functions such as power and volume. | Find a profile suited to the TV or equipment; use its make and model if the built-in search fails. | Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > TV > Infrared Options > Change IR Profile |
| HDMI-CEC | Compatible devices communicate over HDMI. | Both the Fire TV setup and the connected device must support and have CEC enabled. | Settings > Display and Sounds > HDMI CEC Device Control |
For CEC, check the connected device’s own settings too: enabling the Fire TV option alone may not be enough. The device must support CEC, and its setting may use a manufacturer-specific name.

What to check when power or volume still does not work
- Confirm which function is failing. If Fire TV navigation works but TV power or volume does not, focus on equipment control. If navigation also fails, follow Amazon’s remote-pairing steps.
- Check batteries and distance. Amazon’s pairing help includes battery and distance checks; these can help rule out a basic remote issue before changing the profile.
- Try the profile search again, then use the TV model. A profile that does not operate the needed controls may not be the right match.
- Consider CEC if the connected equipment supports it. Enable HDMI CEC Device Control on Fire TV and check for a corresponding CEC setting on the TV or other connected device.
- Restart or reset only if needed. Reset instructions differ across remote generations. Match the procedure to your remote using Amazon’s remote-reset guide.
When a replacement remote is relevant
A replacement remote may help if the original is lost, damaged, or incompatible with the Fire TV device, but replacing it does not provide a universal IR code. Before buying one, check the exact Fire TV model and remote generation against Amazon’s Fire TV remote compatibility list. Pairing requirements are covered separately in Amazon’s pairing help.
