Intel estimates that Lunar Lake’s Skymont E-core has IPC on par with Raptor Cove for LLC/Ring workloads—but only under specified conditions. The comparison is an Intel estimate at fixed frequency, with similar memory and fabric, for general workloads that are not vector-heavy. It does not establish equal performance in every application or system.
What Intel’s Skymont IPC comparison means
IPC means instructions per cycle: how much work a core completes per clock cycle. Intel’s comparison is about IPC, not a claim that a Skymont processor and a Raptor Cove processor deliver identical application speed.
Intel’s Computex 2024 performance-index page says Lunar Lake E-cores, codenamed Skymont, have IPC “on-par with Raptor Cove IPC on LLC/Ring.” Intel qualifies the statement for fixed-frequency testing, similar memory and fabric, and general workloads that are not vector-heavy.
The result is based on Intel internal projections and estimates dated May 13, 2024, with a stated margin of error of ±10%. Intel describes the benchmark basis as estimated SPEC CPU 2017 rate-base components using GCC 12.1-O2 on Linux. This is Intel’s estimate, not an independent benchmark result.

Skymont’s separate comparison with Crestmont
Intel also reports gains against the previous generation of low-power E-cores, codenamed Crestmont. That is a different baseline from Raptor Cove:

These Crestmont figures do not mean Skymont is 1.38× or 1.68× faster than Raptor Cove. They compare Skymont with an earlier low-power E-core generation, and Intel reports separate integer and floating-point IPC results.

What the comparison does not establish
- It does not show that Skymont and Raptor Cove perform identically in every application or workload.
- It does not establish a universal comparison across processor models or system configurations; Intel’s stated comparison assumes similar memory and fabric.
- It does not establish equivalent whole-processor speed. IPC is only one factor in performance, and the cited claim is specifically an IPC estimate.
- It does not provide a universal conversion between Skymont and other vendors’ cores.
Intel also publishes instruction-throughput and latency documentation for Skymont-based cores and documentation for Crestmont- and Redwood Cove-based cores. These references describe instruction behavior; they do not turn Intel’s scoped comparison into a general application-performance equivalence.
