Persona 4 Revival is ATLUS’s remake of Persona 4 Golden, returning to the rural town of Inaba for a supernatural murder mystery about a rumored late-night TV broadcast. Its announced story follows a high-school student and classmates as they investigate disappearances, enter a world beyond television screens, and confront Shadows linked to denied parts of themselves. SEGA currently lists the main release for February 18, 2027, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version for May 20, 2027.
What is Persona 4 Revival?
Persona 4 Revival is an upcoming ATLUS role-playing game and a remake or retelling of Persona 4 Golden. SEGA introduced it as part of the Persona RPG series, not as a newly numbered sequel. The publisher says the remake reimagines the graphics, interface, combat, and cutscenes for a modern presentation; the reviewed announcements do not detail every change or establish whether every story beat is identical to the earlier game. SEGA’s 2025 announcement and its June 2026 launch announcement describe the project as a retelling and remake, respectively.

The remake revisits a well-established Persona story rather than starting a new numbered chapter. In a 2025 statement, P-Studio Director Kazuhisa Wada called Persona 4 “a special title that has been a part of Atlus for many years and holds a personal place in my heart.”

What is the story of Persona 4 Revival?
The spoiler-light premise centers on the Midnight Channel, an urban legend circulating among young people in Inaba. The rumor says that on a rainy night at midnight, looking into a switched-off television will reveal a person’s “fated” match. The protagonist and classmates investigate the rumor as disappearances and murders occur, then discover an otherworld beyond television screens. SEGA’s official story and gameplay overview frames the investigation as a search for the truth over an unforgettable year.

The official synopsis connects the eerie broadcast, the town’s fog, and the growing case, but does not disclose every mystery answer. The full culprit explanation and other major plot resolutions should therefore be treated as spoilers not established by the announced material.
Shadows and Personas
In the otherworld, the characters face Shadows. SEGA describes a Shadow as a manifestation of a side of someone that person has avoided or denied. Facing that side enables it to awaken as a Persona: a power the character can use to fight. This link between self-understanding and supernatural combat is central to the announced premise.
The protagonist and classmates
The protagonist is described as a second-year high-school student who moves from the city to the countryside to live with an uncle. SEGA’s overview names classmates Yosuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka, and Yukiko Amagi, and also lists Marie. The published materials introduce these characters but do not lay out the remake’s full character arcs.
Where does Persona 4 Revival take place?
The story is set in Inaba, a fictional rural Japanese town. Xbox Wire’s Inaba tour guide describes a place surrounded by hills, farmland, and rivers, with few tourist attractions or entertainment venues. SEGA names locations including the Central Shopping District, Junes department store, Samegawa Flood Plain, Shichiri Beach, and the Amagi Inn.

Inaba’s small-town routines are part of the contrast: the protagonist goes to school and builds relationships in a close-knit community while a supernatural investigation unfolds. The official descriptions place everyday activities alongside dungeon exploration, efforts to rescue missing people, and attempts to stop the killings. The setting is not just a backdrop for the mystery; it puts familiar school and community life next to an unsettling otherworld.
How is the game described to play?
SEGA describes two connected sides of play. In everyday life, players spend time on school, clubs, work, and relationships. In the otherworld, they lead the Special Investigation Team to explore, rescue missing people, and investigate the murders. Relationships, called Communities in the official overview, can strengthen Persona abilities or provide useful battle skills.
The publisher says Revival updates graphics, the user interface, combat, and cutscenes. Its Japanese overview also describes newly recorded voices and fully voiced event scenes. These are announced features, not independent assessments of how the finished game performs.

How does Revival compare with Persona 4 Golden?
Revival is presented as a remake of Persona 4 Golden, with modernization across presentation and combat rather than a new numbered entry in the series. SEGA has not specified in the reviewed material exactly how the remake changes the plot, character arcs, or individual systems, so claims about specific additions or omissions are premature.

SEGA’s Japanese listing also names standard, digital Deluxe, and digital Premium editions. Its Japan-only Limited Box is listed at ¥18,480 including tax and includes the physical base game, a Shigenori Soejima designer box, Midnight Channel phone pouch, exclusive T-shirt, 48-page artbook, and Velvet Costumes Set. What should returning and new players know?
- If you know Persona 4 Golden: Revival revisits that game with announced updates to presentation and combat, but detailed remake-specific story changes have not been established.
- If you are new to Persona 4: The announced setup combines school life and social relationships with a murder investigation, television-linked supernatural world, and turn-based RPG combat involving Personas.

SEGA reported that the Persona series had surpassed 30 million units sold worldwide in its June 2026 announcement. That is a series-wide publisher figure, not sales for Persona 4 Revival.
