The current product is an Inventua-developed .NET Core/MVC web application framework and CMS, not the older PHP/MySQL weblog software described in its legacy manual. It supports Windows, Linux, Docker and Azure App Service, with several database and file-storage choices.
What is Nucleus CMS?
Nucleus CMS combines a content-management system with modular publishing and presentation features. The current official site describes page metadata and permissions, role-based security, API access rights, OAuth and SAML single sign-on extensions, full-text search providers, OpenTelemetry metrics, health checks and developer tooling. It is designed to be deployed and administered as your own application rather than used only as a hosted blogging service.
The name also appears in documentation for an older, separate PHP/MySQL weblog product. That legacy edition included multiple weblogs, comments, archives, categories, search, multiple authors, drafts, future-dated posts, media uploads, customizable skins and templates, RSS, XML-RPC and import tools. Its manual records GPLv2 licensing. Those technical requirements and license should not be attributed to the current .NET product.
Is Nucleus CMS open source?
Yes. The current Nucleus CMS site says, “Nucleus is open-source and is licensed under the MIT license.” Inventua is identified as its developer. The MIT license statement applies to the current product; the legacy PHP edition’s manual records GPLv2.

What can you publish with Nucleus CMS?
The current product’s documented modules cover different content types and publishing needs:
- Text/HTML: publish text and HTML content.
- Static Content: manage static pages or other content that is not organized as a conventional post stream.
- Documents and Media: work with document and media content.
- Links: manage link content.
- Multi-Content: combine or present multiple content sources.
- Publish: support the publishing workflow.
The July 26, 2024 announcement for Nucleus CMS 2.0.0 also lists optional Elastic Search, Azure Blob Storage, Google Analytics and OAuth extensions. The official home page describes further options and capabilities, including search providers, identity extensions and API permissions; availability can depend on the installed modules and extensions.

Can Nucleus CMS run on Linux or Docker?
Yes. The setup documentation names Windows, Azure App Service, Linux and Docker as supported hosting environments. The downloads page offers Windows x64, Linux ARM64, Linux x64, and portable install and upgrade sets. Where a platform-specific package is available for your environment, the downloads page recommends using it.
Installation begins with a ZIP install set and the guide for your hosting platform. You then visit the Nucleus URL and complete the setup wizard. The wizard configures the database provider, site template, file-system provider and extensions, followed by site settings, security roles and administrator accounts. Use the platform-specific guide for deployment details; the documentation covers configuration and operations as well as initial setup.

Which databases and file-storage systems does Nucleus CMS support?

These options let administrators choose infrastructure suited to their deployment. For example, a site can use a supported relational database and keep files in local storage or a configured cloud object-storage provider. Confirm the provider and extension configuration in the setup and platform documentation for the version you deploy.
What should teams evaluate before choosing Nucleus CMS?
Nucleus CMS may suit teams that want to control hosting, database and file storage, and configure a modular publishing system. Its documentation also covers roles and users, API keys, scheduled tasks, search settings, system status, logging, instrumentation and health checks, which matter when a team needs administrative control and operational visibility.

That flexibility also means the team must plan deployment, security configuration, upgrades and ongoing operations. Review the current platform guide, extension availability and release notes against your requirements before committing. Official materials cited here do not establish adoption, user-count, market-share or performance figures, so those should not be inferred from the feature list.
