How nano-texture glass works
Apple describes the surface as glass etched to create nanostructures. In its Studio Display XDR Technology Overview (March 2026), Apple says: “The textured surface is produced via an etching process to create nanostructures on the glass.” The texture scatters light reflected from the surface, making reflections less distracting and lowering perceived reflectivity.
This does not eliminate reflections or glare. It changes how reflected light behaves at the cover-glass surface, rather than changing the pixels or underlying display technology.

Apple’s technical overview describes the matte finish as scattering reflections “to reduce perceived reflectance while minimizing impact on sharpness, color, and contrast.” It does not provide a numeric nano-texture reflectivity value in the cited passage.

Who may want a nano-texture display?
It may suit someone who often uses a display in a workspace where lighting cannot be controlled, such as near windows or overhead lights, and prefers a matte surface. If reflections are rare or the lighting is already controlled, standard glass may be sufficient. The choice is a trade-off in surface finish and care, not a guarantee of a reflection-free screen.
Which Apple devices offer it?
Apple lists Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, iMac, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro (M4) among products that may be available with nano-texture glass. Availability depends on the exact model and configuration; the product name alone does not confirm that a device has it. Check the specifications for the specific configuration before buying or identifying an existing display.

How to clean nano-texture glass
Apple’s cleaning guidance for Apple products recommends using the supplied polishing cloth to remove dust and smudges from nano-texture glass. For infrequent, hard-to-remove marks, Apple permits moistening that cloth with 70% isopropyl alcohol. The 70% figure is a cleaning instruction, not a display-performance measurement. Apple says a replacement polishing cloth can be ordered if the original is lost.
Use the dedicated Apple guidance rather than assuming that generic screen cleaners or cloths are appropriate for this surface.
