A Microsoft Dynamics 365 reseller is a Microsoft channel partner that helps a customer acquire Dynamics 365 subscriptions and may also deliver consulting, implementation, training, and ongoing support. “Reseller” describes the commercial channel role, not a standard package of services. One partner may only arrange licensing, while another may run discovery, configure applications, migrate data, build integrations, train users, and support the live system. Confirm exactly who sells the subscriptions, who delivers the project, what is included, and what happens after go-live before signing.
What a Dynamics 365 reseller is
Dynamics 365 is Microsoft’s family of cloud business applications, including products for sales, customer service, finance, supply chain, commerce, human resources, and related operations. A reseller is a partner in Microsoft’s sales channel. The partner can help a customer select suitable applications and arrange subscriptions rather than requiring the customer to navigate the entire purchase alone.
That commercial role does not automatically mean the partner will implement the software. Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 partner directory describes a broad ecosystem in which partners may provide application selection, assessment, architecture planning, configuration, customization, implementation, training, consultation, optimization, and support. Those are capabilities a particular partner may offer, not services guaranteed by the word “reseller.”
Many firms combine the roles. They sell or broker the licenses, then charge separately for professional services. Others specialize in one application, industry, or delivery stage and work alongside a different licensing provider. The proposal and contract—not the directory label—define your practical relationship.

Reseller, implementation partner, and Microsoft: who does what?
Use the terms to identify responsibilities, not to assume a hierarchy. A single company can occupy several roles, but your agreement should state which entity owns each task.

Do not assume that buying licenses through a reseller gives you a single point of accountability for Microsoft service incidents. Your contract should distinguish Microsoft platform support, partner support, and any paid managed service.
How the Microsoft CSP channel affects your purchase
Microsoft’s Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) overview, version 23.30, describes three channel positions: Direct Partners, Indirect Providers, and Indirect Resellers. The route determines which organization transacts with you and which party performs customer-facing tasks such as billing, provisioning, and support. Commercial terms change, so treat the versioned overview as an explanation of the model rather than a permanent description of every current offer.

Partners set customer pricing and terms within the described program framework. A quote can therefore include Microsoft subscription charges, partner discounts or markups, implementation fees, managed-service fees, taxes, and other commercial conditions. Ask for these components separately; a single monthly number can hide different renewal and cancellation rules.
Services a Dynamics 365 reseller may provide
Application and process fit
A capable partner starts with business processes rather than a favorite module. It maps requirements such as lead management, order-to-cash, inventory, financial close, or customer-service queues to Dynamics 365 applications and standard features. The output should identify configuration, integration, data, reporting, and process changes needed to meet the requirement.

Architecture and implementation planning
Architecture work defines environments, security roles, data ownership, integration boundaries, reporting, release management, and a rollout sequence. A written plan should identify assumptions, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and the person accountable for each decision.
Configuration, customization, and partner applications
Partners can tailor existing solutions and may offer prebuilt partner apps. Configuration changes settings and workflows within supported capabilities; customization or custom development adds code, extensions, or bespoke interfaces. Ask why a requirement cannot be met through standard functionality, how upgrades will be protected, and who will maintain custom components.
Data migration and integrations
Migration services can profile source data, map fields, cleanse duplicates, load test environments, reconcile totals, and perform a final cutover. Integration work may connect Dynamics 365 with accounting systems, commerce platforms, warehouses, identity services, or analytics. The statement of work should name each source and destination, refresh frequency, error handling, security method, and ownership after launch.
Training and adoption
Training may include role-based sessions, administrator enablement, documentation, recorded demonstrations, and a train-the-trainer approach. Confirm whether training covers only initial users or also new hires, and whether materials are updated after configuration changes.
Support and optimization
Ongoing services can include incident triage, how-to assistance, monitoring, release impact reviews, performance tuning, and recommendations for additional features. “Support included” is too vague to evaluate: obtain hours, channels, severity definitions, response targets, exclusions, and rates for project work.

What a reseller does during a typical project
- Discovery: Document goals, current processes, users, data sources, compliance needs, integrations, and success measures.
- Fit and roadmap: Recommend applications and a phased scope, separating standard configuration from customization and future improvements.
- Commercial design: Present subscription quantities, billing route, implementation fees, assumptions, renewal terms, and support options as separate line items.
- Solution design: Produce architecture, security, data, integration, reporting, testing, and change-management plans.
- Build and migrate: Configure environments, develop approved extensions, prepare data, and connect external systems.
- Validate: Run unit, integration, user-acceptance, security, and reconciliation testing against agreed acceptance criteria.
- Prepare users: Deliver role-based training, administrator handover, documentation, and cutover rehearsals.
- Go live: Execute the cutover plan, provide hypercare, monitor issues, and route Microsoft platform incidents through the correct support channel.
- Operate and improve: Review usage, releases, backlog, service levels, and optimization opportunities under the post-launch agreement.
How to compare Dynamics 365 reseller options
Use a written scorecard so a low subscription quote does not outweigh delivery risk. The following criteria reflect the service and channel responsibilities Microsoft describes.

Questions to ask before signing
- Which Dynamics 365 applications and business processes are in scope, and which are explicitly out of scope?
- Who is the contractual seller, who provisions and administers subscriptions, and who sends each invoice?
- Will Microsoft licenses and partner services appear as separate line items?
- Which deliverables cover assessment, architecture, configuration, migration, integrations, custom development, testing, training, and go-live support?
- What assumptions about data quality, user numbers, interfaces, environments, and customer staffing support the estimate?
- What are the change-control steps and rates when a requirement changes?
- Who will staff the project, and can you speak with customers using the same applications or industry processes?
- What support is included after hypercare, during which hours, with what response commitments and escalation path?
- How are renewals, price changes, cancellation, subscription transfer, and access to your tenant handled?
- Does the proposed project qualify for Microsoft FastTrack, and who will submit the required nomination?
Microsoft FastTrack is separate from reseller service
FastTrack for Dynamics 365 is a Microsoft customer-success path powered by Microsoft engineering. Microsoft describes eligible customers working with qualified partners as able to receive Success by Design services such as solution blueprint reviews and go-live readiness reviews. Project nominations are required for FastTrack engagements across the Dynamics 365 application suite.
FastTrack is not an automatic benefit of buying through any reseller. Eligibility, partner qualification, application scope, and the nomination process all matter. Ask the partner to state whether your project is eligible, which party will submit the nomination, what Microsoft will review, and which implementation responsibilities remain with the partner.
Costs, contracts, and ownership
There is no single “reseller price.” Your recurring total depends on the Dynamics 365 applications, license types and quantities, billing term, geography, taxes, and the channel route. Professional services are usually priced separately by milestone, time and materials, fixed scope, or a managed-service subscription. The reviewed Microsoft material does not establish a universal fee schedule, so a precise total requires a partner quote based on your requirements.
Request a total-cost view covering at least the initial term, implementation, migration, integration, training, support, renewals, and likely change requests. Clarify whether the partner or your organization owns custom code, documentation, integration credentials, data extracts, and administrative accounts. Include an orderly exit process so another partner can take over without losing access or operational knowledge.

Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
Choosing on license discount alone
A cheaper subscription quote can be outweighed by unpriced migration, integration, training, or support work. Compare the complete first-year and renewal costs with identical scope assumptions.
Assuming “reseller” means implementation
Require a named delivery team and a detailed statement of work. If the seller subcontracts implementation, identify the subcontractor and the prime contractor’s responsibility for defects and delays.
Leaving data and integrations vague
List every source, volume, transformation, frequency, reconciliation method, and error owner. Make a test migration and acceptance totals contractual milestones.
Under-specifying support
Replace “24/7 support” or “ongoing assistance” with hours, channels, severity definitions, response targets, escalation, included effort, and after-hours charges.
Over-customizing early
Ask the partner to demonstrate standard functionality first. Approve custom work only when the business value, upgrade impact, ownership, and maintenance cost are documented.

Treating a case study as a benchmark
Microsoft’s customer story dated August 18, 2026, about COSMO CONSULT reports a pipeline increase from €30 million to €124 million over three years. That is a company-specific case-study claim, not an industry-wide result or a forecast for a new Dynamics 365 project. Use references to test fit and delivery quality, not to promise the same financial outcome.
Do you need a reseller at all?
You can sometimes buy Microsoft cloud subscriptions through Microsoft’s own channels, but many organizations use a partner when they need process design, configuration, migration, integrations, training, local billing assistance, or ongoing operational help. A reseller is useful when it takes clear responsibility for a defined outcome. If you already have an experienced internal Dynamics 365 team, you may need only licensing administration or specialist help rather than a full-service implementation partner.
The practical decision is therefore not “reseller or no reseller.” Decide which capabilities you need, then choose a channel and delivery arrangement that assigns each responsibility to a named party and documents the handoffs.

Microsoft’s partner directory and CSP material establish the range of roles and channel structures, but they do not guarantee that every listed partner offers every service or that every commercial arrangement has identical terms. No general, named statistic about Dynamics 365 resellers was identified in those official sources. Evaluate a specific firm through its current proposal, references, staffing plan, contract, and support commitments.
The Bottom Line
A Dynamics 365 reseller can be your licensing channel, implementation consultant, training provider, and long-term support partner—but only if those services are explicitly included. Compare the channel route, application expertise, delivery scope, billing, FastTrack eligibility, service levels, and exit terms before you commit.
