A liquid screen protector is a coating applied to a device screen that dries into a thin surface treatment. Unlike tempered glass, it does not leave a separate sheet over the display. Belkin describes its Titan LiquidGuard as an invisible coating intended to protect against scratches, but says it does not prevent screen cracks from drops. If impact protection is your priority, Belkin recommends tempered glass.
How a liquid screen protector works
Liquid screen protectors are applied as liquids rather than installed as sheets of glass or film. The exact formulation and performance can vary by product; claims about one coating should not be assumed to apply to every product sold under this name.
For its Titan LiquidGuard, Belkin says the liquid fills microscopic imperfections in the screen glass and hardens as it cures. Belkin describes this product as a silicon-dioxide-based nano-coating enhanced with graphene and Nano-Titan reinforcement technology. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of its own product, not independently established properties of the entire category. Belkin’s Titan LiquidGuard FAQ says initial protection begins shortly after application, full curing and bonding may take up to 24 hours, and the coating gradually wears down and can be reapplied.

Not according to Belkin’s stated limitation for Titan LiquidGuard. Its support FAQ answers, “Does Titan LiquidGuard prevent screen cracks from drops? No.” Belkin recommends tempered glass when impact protection is the priority. A liquid coating should therefore be understood as a possible surface or scratch treatment—not as drop-proof protection.
#1 Best Overall
- Liquid Glass by ProofTech is an advanced technology, invisible, wipe-on screen protector that bonds to the glass of your device offering enhanced scratch, moisture, and impact resistance.
- Made of silica dioxide (Si02) which is essentially microscopic particles of glass suspended in a liquid solution. Fills in the imperfections of the screen and adds an additional layer of glass (should not be used to repair broken screens. Does not fix existing scratches or damages).
- Adds an additional extremely thin layer of glass that is highly scratch & shatter resistant and increases the glass' strength to 9 H hardness level. (Does Not fix or repair existing damages)
- Easy, bubble free wipe-on application with a universal fit; ideal for curved screens and tablets.
- Universal: Compatible with all mobile devices, phones, tablets and smart watches, cameras, touch screens, TV screens, computer screens. 100% Compatible with fingerprint readers or sensors.
Belkin also reports a 9H surface-hardness rating for Titan LiquidGuard, qualified as “Rated 9H against low-carbon steel at 5H, using the ASTM D3363 Film Hardness by Pencil Test Hardness.” This is a manufacturer-reported pencil-hardness claim, not a drop rating, a Mohs scale rating, or independent proof of category-wide performance. Belkin’s product page provides the claim and its test-method qualification.
Liquid screen protector vs. tempered glass
| Priority | Liquid coating | Tempered-glass protector |
|---|---|---|
| Screen feel and added layer | Belkin says Titan LiquidGuard is invisible and adds no measurable thickness. | A separate physical sheet sits over the screen. The American Ceramic Society distinguishes traditional solid protectors from liquid-applied-and-dried products. |
| Surface scratches | Belkin markets Titan LiquidGuard for scratch protection. | The protector provides a separate surface that can be replaced; check fit and claims for the specific product. |
| Drops and impacts | Belkin says its coating does not prevent screen cracks from drops. | Belkin recommends tempered glass for impact protection. This does not mean every glass protector prevents breakage. |
| Replacement | Belkin says the coating does not peel off as a sheet; it wears gradually and can be reapplied. | It is a distinct overlay, so it can be evaluated as a replaceable layer. |
The American Ceramic Society’s explanation of liquid and solid screen protectors covers the difference in product form. For either type, check compatibility with your device model.

Which type should you choose?
- Choose a liquid coating if you want an applied surface treatment without a separate sheet and are considering it for scratch protection. Check the specific product’s claims and instructions.
- Choose tempered glass if impact protection is your main concern. Select a protector designed for your device, and do not treat it as a guarantee against a cracked screen.
