A find-me service routes incoming calls to one or more destinations you configure, helping callers reach you through a single associated number. Depending on the communications system, it can ring destinations in sequence or at the same time. The exact options vary by provider.
What does “find-me service” mean?
“Find-me/follow-me” is a feature of unified communications systems. The Government of Canada’s TERMIUM Plus terminology entry describes it as a way to track people across contact points such as phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, and pagers. In practical telephone use, the system routes a call to configured destinations so a subscriber can be reached.
It is a service feature, not a special handset or standalone physical product. Providers may use labels such as “find me,” “follow me,” “hunt group,” or “single-number reach” for related capabilities; the label alone does not establish that two services work the same way.

How does find-me call routing work?
The system applies routing rules to an incoming call. It may try destinations one after another or ring several destinations simultaneously. For example, a system could try a desk phone and then another configured number after a timeout, or ring multiple destinations together. Which options are available depends on the provider and the service configuration.

A Metaswitch reference for its Rhino TAS application describes routing rules that can respond when a phone is busy, goes unanswered, is switched off, or is out of coverage. It also describes fallback options, such as voicemail or an announcement, when no destination answers. These are examples from one vendor’s implementation, not a universal feature specification. Is find-me the same as call forwarding or single-number reach?
Find-me routing is related to call forwarding because both can send incoming calls to other destinations. A find-me feature may offer a configurable list of destinations, routing order, trigger conditions, and a fallback; ordinary forwarding may offer a different or narrower set of controls. The names are not reliable substitutes for checking the actual settings.

“Single-number reach” is another related term. In a 2006 decision, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission described it as a find-me/follow-me service using a virtual telephone number that customers could program to forward calls regardless of location. The decision also discussed notification of a waiting call while a customer was online. That description is historical regulatory context, not evidence that every current provider offers those functions. Read Telecom Decision CRTC 2006-79.

- Whether destinations ring in sequence, simultaneously, or both.
- How many destinations can be configured.
- Which conditions trigger routing to the next destination, such as busy, no answer, or loss of coverage.
- What happens if nobody answers, including whether voicemail or an announcement can be used.
- Whether schedules or other routing rules can be set.
- Whether the feature is currently available on the provider’s service and plan in your location.
Availability can change by provider and jurisdiction. For example, Bell Canada’s tariff text for Single Number Reach says new customer requests for that tariff item will not be processed; check the provider’s current regional terms rather than assuming that a feature name means it can be newly ordered.
