When a social platform blocks an advertiser, ads may stop immediately and the advertiser may lose access to campaign, billing, pixel, or account-management features. The exact result depends on what was blocked: a single ad, a user, a payment function, or the entire advertising account.
Start with the enforcement notice and the platform’s account-status screen. Identify the affected asset, correct the stated problem, and use the official appeal or support route within the stated deadline. A review can restore access, but no platform in the guidance below promises reinstatement.
“Blocked” is not one universal status
Platforms use different labels for different enforcement scopes. A rejected creative is not the same event as a suspended ad account, and a billing hold may be cleared without changing the status of your ads. Treat the notice attached to your account as the authoritative description rather than relying on a generic list of causes.

Some services reserve immediate action for severe conduct. Google Ads says unlawful or significantly harmful violations can trigger suspension without a prior warning. That does not mean every suspension is classified that way or that every advertiser skips a warning.

What changes operationally after a block?
Campaign delivery can stop
A full account suspension generally prevents every ad under that account from serving. TikTok for Business states: “All ads under the suspended ad account will be stopped.” LinkedIn gives the equivalent practical rule for an account on hold: “If your LinkedIn Ads account has been put on hold, ads won’t run while the account is on hold but will resume once the hold is removed.”
Management tools may disappear
Stopping delivery is only one consequence. TikTok says suspended accounts lose access to some Ads Manager capabilities, including transferring and accessing pixels. Administrators and Operators can still change campaign, ad-group, and ad-delivery status, while other account or campaign settings are unavailable. The exact feature restrictions on another platform must be read from its own notice.
Restoration is uncertain
A restriction can be temporary or permanent. TikTok describes a 30-day period after a first violation to address the issue or appeal; unresolved issues or a rejected appeal can lead to a permanent suspension under that guidance. Google says reinstatement is reserved for compelling circumstances, such as a mistake. None of these statements establishes a cross-platform success rate, and no comparable public rate was provided for how often advertiser appeals succeed.

Why platforms block advertisers
Official guidance points to several cause categories. The reason named in your notice matters more than any general checklist.
- Policy or terms violations: prohibited ad content, service-qualification problems, or repeated violations can trigger review or suspension.
- Billing and payment problems: unpaid balances, chargebacks, suspicious payment activity, promotional-code abuse, missing payment details, or a billing-administrator change can interrupt delivery.
- Account integrity and behavior concerns: suspected malicious behavior, unusual activity, or a user profile identified as potentially fake or spam may lead to restrictions.
- Destination or landing-page changes: TikTok specifically lists changing an ad’s landing page after campaign creation as a possible suspension cause.
- Budget, end-date, or inactivity conditions: LinkedIn lists reaching an enterprise budget or end date and certain inactive accounts among possible hold reasons.
A notice can combine categories. For example, a payment issue may be the practical blocker while an identity check is required before the account can be reviewed.
How each platform describes enforcement
TikTok for Business
TikTok reviews both ads and account behavior against its advertising policies. Its suspension guidance lists complaints, ad-content or service-qualification issues, post-creation landing-page changes, suspected malicious behavior, and advertising-standard violations as possible triggers. Account Health shows the account’s condition: “Attention Needed” signals issues, warnings, or suggestions, while “Poor” leads to suspension. Severe issues may cause immediate suspension.

During suspension, all ads in the account stop. Some Ads Manager tools, including pixel transfer and access, are unavailable. Admins and Operators retain the ability to change campaign, ad-group, and delivery status, but other account or campaign settings are restricted.
TikTok’s stated first-violation process allows 30 days to fix the issue or appeal. If the problem remains or the appeal is rejected after that period, the suspension can become permanent, with no further appeal under that guidance. TikTok’s troubleshooting instructions, marked last updated April 2025, say to sign in to the suspended account and follow Help > Submit ticket > Account/Ad Review > Account Review > Account Suspension Appeal. Appeals submitted more than 180 days after suspension will not be reviewed. TikTok advises one appeal per incident, cautions against opening a new ad account while review is pending, and says an email reply usually arrives within two business days. Verify the current in-product path and notice because interfaces can change.
Google Ads
Google Ads says policy or terms violations can lead to suspension. Its billing and payment examples include promotional-code abuse, chargebacks, suspicious payment activity, and unpaid balances. For egregious violations that are unlawful or pose significant harm, Google says it may suspend immediately without prior warning.

Open the appeal form from the suspension notice in the affected account. Google may require selected advertisers to complete identity verification, and it may ask advertisers suspended for billing or payment reasons to verify the payment method. The company says reinstatement occurs only in compelling circumstances, such as a mistake. It also warns that excessive appeals for the same suspension may not be processed, so sending repeated forms is not a shortcut.
LinkedIn Ads
LinkedIn places an ad account on hold when it needs an issue resolved; ads do not run until the hold is removed. Listed causes include missing payment details on a new account, a billing-admin change, unpaid balances in other accounts, a user profile identified as potentially spam or fake, an enterprise budget or end date being reached, and certain inactive accounts.

The Campaign Manager banner identifies the hold reason and recommended troubleshooting. Depending on the cause, the remedy may be adding payment details, settling invoices, removing a restricted user when appropriate, or contacting a LinkedIn representative.
LinkedIn treats a restricted or rejected ad or Lead Gen Form separately from a whole-account hold. For those assets, open the notice in Campaign Manager or the linked email; if the material complies, the notice page offers an appeal. LinkedIn says it usually sends an update within 24 hours. That timing applies to the described ad and form appeal route, not automatically to every account-level hold.

X Ads
X’s eligibility guidance says advertisers must meet its criteria and comply with the Ads Quality Policy, and that a deactivated X account cannot participate in X Ads. The cited eligibility material does not establish a general account-suspension appeal workflow, deadline, or restoration timetable. Use the specific notice and current support instructions shown in the account rather than assuming the procedures above apply.

- Preserve the notice. Save the email and screenshots. Record the platform, account or asset ID, stated reason, enforcement date, and response deadline.
- Map the scope. Check Account Health, account status, Campaign Manager, or the equivalent interface. Determine whether the restriction concerns an ad, destination, user, payment function, or complete advertising account.
- Correct the named issue. Review the ad and landing page, verify advertiser or business details if requested, check payment methods and unpaid balances, and inspect who has account access. These checks reflect the issue categories in the cited platform guidance; they are not a universal checklist.
- Prepare one complete submission. Use the appeal or support flow linked from the affected account. Explain what happened, identify the corrective change, and attach only the requested documentation. Follow the notice for the deadline and whether another appeal is allowed.
- Avoid duplicate workarounds. Do not file repeated appeals for the same event. TikTok specifically advises against creating a new ad account during review, and Google warns that excessive appeals may not be processed. Do not generalize either instruction to a platform whose notice says something different.
- Plan delivery contingencies. Because review times and reinstatement are not guaranteed, pause launches that depend on the blocked account, preserve approved creative and tracking records, and use an already compliant channel only if your business and policy obligations allow it.

These are platform-specific instructions, not industry-wide benchmarks. If the current notice gives a different date or route, follow the notice.

- Appealing the wrong scope: An ad rejection appeal cannot necessarily clear a billing hold or a user restriction.
- Changing evidence after the fact: Replacing a landing page or payment method without documenting what changed can make the explanation harder to follow.
- Submitting several partial appeals: Incomplete or duplicate submissions can delay review, and Google says excessive appeals may not be processed.
- Opening replacement accounts: TikTok specifically advises waiting rather than creating a new ad account during review. A replacement account can also leave the original policy or billing issue unresolved.
- Assuming a warning was required: Google’s guidance permits immediate suspension for the severe category it defines, so the absence of a prior warning is not by itself proof of an error.
- Relying on a generic internet checklist: Platform terminology and routes change. The notice attached to the affected account is more useful than an old screenshot or advice for another service.
How to reduce operational risk before an enforcement event
Keep a current record of business verification details, payment ownership, invoices, approved creative, destination-page versions, and administrator access. Limit account permissions to people who need them and review unusual or inactive users. Before changing a live landing page, check whether the platform treats post-creation destination changes as a policy or integrity signal. Build campaign schedules with enough flexibility to absorb a review, because the published guidance does not provide a dependable cross-platform restoration rate.
Finally, separate evidence from assumptions. Record the exact policy language in the notice, the corrective action you took, and the date of each submission. That creates a clear, single account of the event without implying that an appeal guarantees reinstatement.
